As a business decision, there's no reason that Hatco should let Goorin dominate that section of the market with hats that are all pretty "meh."
If the sale of stingies and/or fur felt hats to folks of my generation or younger, provides capital to Stetson to continue to produce the open crown...
The one on the bottom actually needs a new sweat. Oh, and the dog was curious as to what was so interesting. Both 50's Playboys.
I got a little obsessed with photographing the two felt thicknesses. Thanks to this nifty clip on lens for my phone:
The unlined one on top is the lightest...
Love the ORs, guys!
David: alwys nice seeing Bob's handiwork.
It was probably too hot in the bay for a felt hat, but I couldn't resist grabbing the new-to-me Playboy:
Alan: Super Borso! I love that ribbon
Bob: I actually wore my Latte yesterday, nice little stingy
Richard: watch out, Joao might take that one from you!
Charlie: Nice lid, VS I assume?
This unlined 50's Playboy just got dropped off. Grey with a sage-ish colored band. It's elegantly...
If you're just gonna cut the brim off anyway, yeah, go for a Fed.
I find the finishes on Akubras generally just a bit less refined than the average Stetson. But on durability, no contest. The Akubra will outlast its wearer, in all probability! ;)
Thanks gents! Maybe I can escape a full reblock with some steam and a brush, but I might have to swing by and have the good ladies at Paul's hat works spiff this one up.
This 50's (???) Playboy had a $150 BIN, but the seller accepted my best offer. Pictures are not great, but I can't see any moth damage, and I've always wanted an unlined Playboy.

Stetson.com does have a dealer finder on their website. But it looks like it picks up everyone who sells anything in the Stetson hat family.....
Village Hat Shop shows the Stetsonian online, they have a Long Beach store:

The other...
Well...I googled him since I didn't know who you were talking about.
Google images brings up several images with a stingy brim hat with a relatively low crown. It's basically impossible to identify a maker, much less a model designation, without seeing pictures of the inside of the hat.
There...
Thanks to the good Mr. Bowers:

"Stetson used the name Selv-Edge in 1933, but by 1940 changed it the Mode Edge. "
So Bob has been posting some teasers today on Facebook:
He's calling it the "Pinnacle Edge" treatment...I don't know what kind of hatter magic this is, or if it is a "true" felted/Cavanagh edge, but it sure looks mighty nice!
