Beaver Fur Felt Fedora Restoration ?

Kahls makes a felt hat stiffener that's pretty easy to find on the interwebs through various outlets. E.g. (no endorsement, no affiliation): http://www.villagehatshop.com/product/cleaning/451139-79628/kahl-felt-hat-stiffener-spray.html Stiffness is a personal preference. If you've already...

Akubra is now making the stylemaster in burgundy...might also be a good choice for a ribbon swap.

Where can I find this style of hat??

Neophyte maybe? Yah, not a slouch hat. Don't pay that much for that hat. The uncreased crown is not for me, but supposing it were, I'd give a hatter a call. What is your actual budget? Because a reasonable price is so often relative....

Royal vs Sovereign (aka Royal Deluxe) Stetsons

Thinness and thickness of felt does not necessarily correlate with the quality of the felt.

A black or dark brown 2" brim stingy with a ribbon replacement is also a good "close enough" option. Forgot to say that the film hat also has a welted edge. Black hat with a maroon band is one of my favorite combos.

Like a factory hat? The basic specs are 5 3/4" open crown height, 2" brim, 2" ribbon. The thing is that the film hat is Optimo's Oxblood dye, which is not among the common colors. So, if you have $650 burning a hole in your wallet: http://optimo.com/collection/the-dillinger There's a current...

    Custom-made Homburg work for a 1930s reproduction?

Well, part of it is personal preference. I happen to like a deeper, swoopier flange on my Homburgs. But I think that a relatively flatter flange was more common back in the 30's. Here's another example from the Pre-1940's Stetson Dress hats thread that belongs to RLK. Also, just FYI, Bob...

    Custom-made Homburg work for a 1930s reproduction?

JMHO from someone who is NOT an expert in 1930's Homburgs, the curl in the brim in the linked hat is "good," not "great." Upon closer inspection, it also looks like Petersham ribbon has been used where grosgrain would have been the standard on men's hats. Considering the price on a handmade...

Rain : rabbit fur vs beaver fur ?

I dunno, the way I read it, the key is "extremely heavy rainfall." If you're going to soak any felt through to the core, repeatedly, expecting that it will show no sign of wear is a false expectation.

Wearing a fedora when it's windy

I've caught it right as it's about to pop off more than a few times. Only once has it cartoonishly blown off my head and had me running down the block.
