I have been reading many articles and posts, mostly regarding Fedora hats and have run across a number of acronyms. Most I can figure out after going back or through further reading such as: CD Campdraft, SB silver belly, and so on. Is there are thread that actually lists common acronyms for us not so knowledgeable? I am still trying to figure out what TAR might be and I am exhausted with the issue.

TIA, Gary

+2. There are some members here who can wear their hats with the brim up or down--Bob Roberts, Moontheloon, and DH66 come to mind--and look good either way. Me, with the brim up I look like even more of an idiot than I usually do.
+3 I dont think the brim up fits me...

Like a factory hat?

The basic specs are 5 3/4" open crown height, 2" brim, 2" ribbon.

The thing is that the film hat is Optimo's Oxblood dye, which is not among the common colors.

So, if you have $650 burning a hole in your wallet:

There's a current Dobbs model called the Strand, which comes in Burgundy with a matching ribbon, which is pretty darn close for a blocked in crease, but it's wool:

The Black Cherry felt which is being used by Art Fawcett, Bob Jessee, an John Penman (among others) is a very close match to the Optimo felt as well.

A black or dark brown 2" brim stingy with a ribbon replacement is also a good "close enough" option. Forgot to say that the film hat also has a welted edge. Black hat with a maroon band is one of my favorite combos.

The other day, I accidentally rubbed a spot on the brim binding of my 1930s Westminster hat, and I'm a bit bothered by the damage done to one of my favorite hats. Is there anything you folks here would advise I do for it?
