My mom would have been a teen during the war, graduating around the time of the war's end. She passed away in 1996.

I've just completed a three year run of working with all women, most of them Mennonite. One had to watch one's mouth every moment. During the twenty-below weather we've had this winter, it was very, very difficult to contain a good expletive or six.
Score! I've been looking for this style glass since I spotted it in liquor ads from the 30's-40's. So far out of fashion, it is all but forgotten.

I dropped my jar of Iron Society, and cracked the jar, chipped the edge. Glass shards went into the goop, and into my fingers when I dipped it out. Quite clumsy.
I've not tried any of the Luck 13 stuff, but I remember it mentioned in this thread somewhere.
Sometimes, in the days before instant classroom video, we would get a special treat: the teacher (or a smarmy kid) would thread up the projector and show us a film. Usually with some educational message, they usually lasted thirty minutes or less- just long enough to fill the classroom time...
I am also shocked and didn't know of his addiction. This is an actor I consciously looked forward to seeing in his 70's. But he leaves behind an extraordinary body of work.
