    Stetson Stratoliner Milan {modern}

    Thanks you, Josh. I agree, this will be my know-around hat. For going camping and hiking, activities forbidden for my finer straws. Don't forget the sandbag for the flange ;)

    :offtopic: Different flanges for different types of brim styles and sizes. Keep that in mind... but we digress.

    Yeah, it's actually leather. And yes, seeing that machine in action would have been amazing. I could, using my prototype instrument, make those holes but it's take a while. A long while.

    Thanks, Rusty. I'm liking the hat a lot!

    Thanks for the info, Spencer. Very nice and tightly woven, indeed. And you're right, the sweatband is rather thick. The vent holes on this one go all the way down to the edge of the brim. I doubt they'll make any significant difference letting air pass the sweat though. I thought about making...

    My new old brim cutter aka rounding jack. Got this one a while back from one of our hatters. Flange stand.

    Both the hat you posted and mine look the same. But it doesn't look/feel like paper... Isn't Bangora machine woven? Is there a way to tell for sure? I made a close up of the loose "fibers" the ones without that white coating look like straw... they're brownish...

    Last but not least, I bought this modern Stetson milan Stratoliner to wear as a I don't-care-what-happens-to-it hat. Quite nice and soft, to my surprise. I was expecting a helmet. Out of respect ;) for the TWA pin, I removed the cheap version they put.

    Speaking of vented hats, I got this vintage Penney's. Check. It. Out! :eeek: Awesomeness! More Here

    Vintage Penney's panama. I believe, by the little bits of fiber sticking out on the inside of the crown, that this one is actual toquilla treated with something that made it whiter and stiff as a cracker. Nevertheless, it's still light and I'm sure it'll be airy inside ;) It came with a purple...

    All right, here we go. Before: After, with slightly deeper side dimples/pinches. (fancy photo, too :D) Before with crazy brim curl: After I flanged it flatter all around: Another side shot: Over all, a decent quality, nice looking hat I think I'm going to enjoy wearing when...

    Thanks, Robert. I was able to remove the stain completely, the tedious part was sewing back the the sweatband I had to remove to stretch it from the original 7 to the 7 1/8 and re-blocking the body to that number. I thought the same thing about the logo. This one is light and short crowned but...

    Barbisio Sportex. Sweat is a bit rough in the back but nothing uncomfortable to wear.

    Stetson Stratoliner Milan {modern}

    Mine just came. Pluses: I was surprised at how soft it actually is. Ordered a 7 1/8 and fits me like a glove. Lighter than I thought it'd be. Cons: Brim flange has way too much swoop in the back and sides. The pin is seriously and nothing else than a joke, cheapest thing I've ever seen even for...

    What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

    I agree with Tom. Seems to ride high as if it were a size smaller than yours.
