I found a candy bar at the store called Goldenberg Peanut chews and the label on the back of the wrapper says these were used during WW1 as rations for US soldiers! These would also be popular as a candy bar during WWII
perfect to add to your WWI or WWII reenactment / living history...
Flat tires back in the Golden era? less common than today?
I remember as a kid, I use to ride all over town and on the levees and back roads and I never got a flat tire? or it was not common
these days sometimes I might get 10 flat tires in the same day and run out of tire patches and spare...
here's an interesting old photo dating from sometime around the late 1880's - 1900's era, a cook prepares pies out on the range
back when everything was still made the old fashioned way, no instant or artificial or frozen ingredients, everything was fresh or made from scratch.
back in the 1880's - 1898 era US Army cooks served some type of Hash every morning at Army Forts, probably made from left overs from the previous meal, beef hash, fish hash, and bread and coffee
stewed fruit , bread, and coffee was also common for the evening meal
back when smoking was allowed in restaurants, people used to smoke and eat at the same time at your table
I always thought it was silly to have a smoking area for high schools, all the burn outs / dope smokers use to head straight for the smokers area
just like an old man that needed a...
I remember going to the movie theater as a kid to watch Kung fu sword fighting movies and the guy sitting in front of me would be smoking cigarettes, it was very strong, they didnt have a smoking / non smoking section at this old movie theater in SF
while shopping in grocery stores it was also...
Thanks Kirk h, it looks like they issued these to specific officers judging by the dates and signatures on the Weapons record card, the first issue was in 1977 then another officer signed for it a couple years later in 1979, it looks like they reissued it to a new officer every 1 - 2 years and...
East German Makarov pistol

The Makarov is a straight blowback pistol that is essentially a simplification of the Walther PP pistol design...
Tommy's Joynt San Francisco
I like to go to Tommys Joynt in SF, it's an old family restaurant thats been around since back in the 1940's, they serve some old fashioned favorites and have very reasonable prices, it reminds me of my first photo the Blossom Restaurant in NYC circa 1935
they...
Pig's knuckles and red cabbage, Pig's Feet & Kraut isnt very common on todays menus?
but you can still find those dishes if your city has a chinatown
I also used to eat beef brain / calf brains often as a kid, but seldom see it for sale at the market.
thats still a nice leather jacket, I like the well worn look like the one used in Kelly's Heroes by Oddball, his appears to have a fuller cut than the originals from WWII.
seller's description:
WW2 leather jacket with 6th armored division patch and corporal rank on the arms. Size is a large 46. An old jacket but I don't know if it's an original wwii or a movie prop. I don't have any history so really don't know and am offering at a low starting bid. It's...
