I think the Defense Agency (DA) was the buying agency from 1953 to 1961. So the date is probably the 5 and whatever the hidden number is, as in 195X.

It's a fine looking finish for sure.
Yes, those ribbons are trouble. It still has a dirt streak where it was bashed in the past too, but that is back on the fold, or somewhere, so it's not visible as I've got it bent now.
The other hat I gas bathed today.

My sister and bro in law came to town for a couple of days, so it was a long reach to the finish line. The Marathon made it.
All great hats, but there is something in the finish of the felt on the Diana wildleder that looks very special.
Trying out one of the OR that I gassed today. This one...

Giving a couple of hats a gas bath this morning. Could be a multiple hat day.
Have a great Saturday,
Michael

Not straw hat weather this morning. So a Stetson Whippet is the choice

Thanks Brent. The pants were newly on display at my favorite vintage store yesterday along with the hat. I've been having a thing for 70s golf pants lately. Ha ha.

Good to know that they will quiet down. I'm assuming the bicycle riding will give them the necessary exercise eventually. Perhaps not this year, given the season. I can personally attest to the water resistance of the layer. If you look at the seams on the inside of the pants you can see the...
Interesting. So are you saying the interlining gets quieter after some wearing? The noise is kind of annoying. But the waterproof part of it is great if you are bicycling in the rain. Keeps the thighs nice and dry. I've got a couple of pair of these, one sadly a bit small nowadays. My go...
Thanks Doug and Stefan. Spring is around the corner, so it was nice to have a new Panama show up just now. I could use a couple of more boaters, but other than that I think my straw hat collection is pretty much filled out.
Thanks,
Michael
Ha ha, might have some snow again tonight. But at this time of year 53 degrees feels like a heatwave. Nice enough to try a new panama in any case.
Two very nice looking hats, Stefan. I would give it to the Wormser on looks, but I understand the felt is not so nice. I think the felt on my...
I found this at my local vintage store today. First day out for the spring and summer clothes.

Thanks for the history lesson, Stefan.
Feeling almost like spring this afternoon. So I had to see how my new Macy's Men's Store Panama looks.

Thanks Eric. Yes, it would be a blast to drop into a Penney's from the 30's or 40's or 50's. I find their current Stafford line to have made some of the better fitting sport coats and suits with nice fabrics from the 80's into the 2000's.

With a West Point Cadet parka/hoodie that is, I think, from the 1950s. As is the hat.

Thanks Stefan. I do love this hat. Is the trachten style where the popularity of back bows in the late 50s originated?
Lovely tone to that felt. Is that a British brand?
Thanks,
Michael
