You think that by using cute indirect techniques, nobody will be able to accuse you of anything, don't you?
In my world, a spade is a spade. Piping up to applaud a person who proved someone else wrong, however adorably and discreetly you put it, is rude and uncalled for. Of course, if you can...
Marc Chevalier is a gentleman, and graciously accepted my apology for contradicting him when I was clearly wrong. This may be hard for you to believe, but not everyone in the world is out to get one up on each other.
You're right. You'll have to forgive me, but it was not the Liebeck case I was thinking of. I reviewed this case and a similar one in my evidence law class in college and mixed up the names.
It's late, I've been out of college for a long time, and I haven't worked in civil litigation in a while.
She was not driving, her son was. He had parked the car in a parking space, and it was stationary when she picked up the coffee, opened the top, and spilled it on her lap.
Marc, you don't know this, and neither does anyone else but Stella Leibeck. As I said, the case never went to trial, so...
According to the American National Coffee Association, McDonald's was keeping their coffee at the recommended 90°F temperature. Also, they were not hit with any damages, punitive or otherwise - The case never went to trial. McDonald's settled with Miss Liebeck for a still undisclosed amount.
Predictably cryptic again. If you're inferring that I was trying to "get" you with what I said, then you need to step outside yourself.
If you mean what I said about "thinking people," that wasn't directed at you. I apologize, I certainly intended to give you full credit.
Don't go that far. The way I read it, he meant more on a personal level, that you shouldn't need to be reminded of what is common sense. And you really shouldn't - But what many thinking people fail to remember is that common sense is rarely at work.
But they didn't show it ;)
I thought it looked a bit too perfect a whole lot of the time! All the men in the show were extremely young, extremely clean cut and extremely handsome. You can say the same for Mad Men, sure, but they have Freddie Rumson.
One other thing I found weird was...
Once again, this is the key point here! It's easy to eat fast food. It's easy to pick up bad habits. It's easy to stay in the same unhealthy cycle, instead of making changes to improve yourself. It's easy to do what everyone else does.
Exercising willpower is not easy, and nobody ever said...
I believe it - Because that's where the money is.
Marc's example of McDonald's invasion of Chile is the very best example of this. They saw an opportunity for profit, and they took it. I'm positive, however, that there are a handful of thinking Chilean's who don't buy it, literally and...
It would be nice, but realistically, they aren't ever going to select integrity over profit. So we as individuals need to make the choice, and not succumb to the mob mentality.
You can't fight city hall - at least, not by yourself.
Thanks for that! See, I do the exact same thing with my spaghetti and my baking (muffins, cookies, etc.) and my mother does it with those plus yogurt and oatmeal. I may add those two to my list when I start eating breakfast again.
I'm pretty sure it's the kids that make it harder. I...
Well, "they" say that Princess Katherine brought hosiery back, so I suspect it will become the next big trend. I didn't see it leave the 9 to 5 crowd though - Most of the women are still wearing their semi-opaque pantyhose with their knee length tapered skirts.
Eating junk food is a bad, bad habit, like chewing your nails. Bad habits are easy to adopt, but hard to recognize sometimes and even harder to kick, especially when everyone around you is engaging in the same habit.
This makes me think of the party guest in Personal Property (1937) who's accent was so posh that nobody could understand him lol I wish I could find a video clip of it!
