I thought I had see it all.... ;)
I can't read the fine print, but I'm guessing one function was it was for the gentleman who wanted extra support with his braces, but didn't want it to show. [huh] Otherwise it just looked cool...:D
I found a DVD of the Coen brother's 'The Man Who Wasn't There' at a thrift store recently and watched it last night. It's a b/w Coen-noir film set in 1949-50. Not too bad....... [huh]
Thanks everyone for discussing this. I took the photo mainly to show on here, but I do lean to the side of taking it off in 'fine' restaurants such as this one was. If they were a couple of guy buddies wearing theirs'...no big deal. I just think he should have taken it off for the lady. :)

I didn't want the guy to be made fun of when posted this photo (by the way, I was out taking photos at the time. I didn't take a camera out of my pocket just to shoot this... lol ). I would have sought a place to put my hat. Behind the bar there's a spot. I would just be plain uncomfortable...
I'm sure there's a thread about this somewhere. I just can't find it....[huh]
While out on a stroll tonight I saw this at a very nice gourmet restaurant in town. That's not very gentlemanly of him...

I have a two pairs of Johnston & Murphys that I bought nearly ten years ago. One I wear fairly frequently in season and I find that they clean up easily. The other pair is sort of in the 'vault' so to speak. I see that Bass has a couple of nice reasonably-priced models........:)
I can see how they are similar. There must have been a whole 'Hi-Lights' line out that year. Mine has no other labels on it. What does the lining say on your's?
Here's a nice 1940s art deco tie I found at the Goodwill recently. What sort of baffles me is the font used on the word 'Hi-Lights.' It appears to be almost too way ahead of its time, but it must be a deco type. Growing up in the 70s I saw this type used in sci-fi and computer-related films so...
