    45" necktie?

It's funny how ties traveled. Where did you find it?

    45" necktie?

I went to Univ. of Iowa in Iowa City. Last I remember Bremer's was still there. It was probably a hot seller for guy students back then...

    45" necktie?

I've noticed from old films and from lots of old photos I've come across that men kept their ties rather short when wearing double-breasted suits.

Very nice to look at. But compared to the prices I paid for mine that's all I'll do...just look.

Anyone else can't bring themselves to wear vintage/used shoes ?....

It's rare that I buy brand new shoes. I'm very picky, of course, but there's been plenty of times that I've found a $120 pair in near-new condition for just five bucks. It's rare that I can afford a new pair to tell you the truth.

Here's few chosen at random. No labels. The surreal design on the center tie was playing off the success of the popular Salvador Dali line. [/IMG]

You seem to have the most distinctive neckties. The colors on this one are amazing.

All I can find any more are the mid-50s ones. This is from the Goodwill this morning (thrown on a flatbed scanner...). [/IMG]

Nice! I have several with sort of the same general design pattern: most of the art is up by the knot and it becomes blank at the bottom. I just figured they were meant for DB suits where only a few inches show. [huh]

    Library of Congress jazz photos

A new shot released on Flickr today: Note the neatly folded coats, topped with their fedoras, in the back: [/IMG] http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/5475994809/

I had mentioned it before, but a while ago I got a comment on my Flickr site regarding a photo of one of my Britico hand-painted ties. The writer told me Britico was his father's company and was child during those busy years in the 40s. He said there were two sisters living in Laurel Canyon in...

Like a lot! I've wondered if the California companies that made these hand-painted ones just gave artist/employees free reign on what to paint on them.

The Declining Popularity of the Necktie

Sometime you just have to be casual. Men did it in the 40s and 50s with sport coats and shirts designed for that purpose (unfortunatley, that look died a horrible death in the 70s with the leisure suit). When at summer cocktail parties I'd say a necktie is over-dressed, but vintage leisure is sharp.

The design is very mid-50s. I wonder if the creator had extra fabric and realized that narrower ties were becoming popular???

    Mobile Phones?

I only got a cell phone because it was cheaper than a land line. I don't have texting in my call plan. I keep it on vibrate all the time. Should I get a call while out in public (very rare) I find a spot out of the way so I will not be heard by others. If I'm at a location where I can't do that...

    What are you wearing today??

Recent Goodwill find - early 60s, labeled 'Park Lane' and 'Bond Clothes' ;) [/IMG]
