Possum merino scarves are brilliant. They are light, very warm and with an incredibly soft tactile texture and similar to cashmere. Wont pil or lose shape. Made form a blend of Australian brushtail possum fur and fine merino wool. Prices quite reasonable. Can be bought online from NZ Nature and...
I have several items of apparel from them bought several years ago. A Mesquite blanket lined jacket, a Chisholm denim jacket, two Taos denim shirts and a pair of jeans. The mesquite jacket is impressive, attractive, light and very tough but the whole otherwise perfect package is undone by...
Have you watched any of these films? I don't believe you have. Certainly there is a propaganda element. Subtle compared to blunt and cleverly done. No demented banzai charges here. No different to watching TITANIC with its cultural values and I don't mean the Nazi version.
The theme was more about the great honour of dying for the Emperor. Not so much about fanatical fighting codes and no demonstrated hatred of the enemy. In fact the harshest words were reserved for the rival clans being fought during the period of the Meiji Restoration where this films first...
One of the other films in this set THE LIVING MAGOROKU from 1943 deals with a similar theme to what you say here. It's about a wealthy land owning family who happen to own a large parcel of valuable agricultural land that was once an ancient battle field where Tokugawa Ieyasu achieved a great...
It's not just the ending of the film but also the role of the main hero in the film played by Chishu Ryu. Normally he plays noble and sympathetic figures but here he comes across as a jerk. His patriotic fervour and bullying hostility with other characters who behave in a way that can be...
Propaganda heavy or subtle is an ingredient of just about every film made during the war by all protagonists. Interesting that Kino****a was branded a traitor for the way ARMY turned out. He was banned from making any further films during the war. This film was supposed to be idealising...
I recently watched three Japanese war films made during WW2 around 1943/44. JUBILATION STREET, THE LIVING MAGOROKU and ARMY from the recently released KINOSH.ITA WORLD WAR II DVD set. All excellent films and quite a revelation. ARMY would have be one of the most interesting war themed films I...
I can recommend these films
The stunning Criterion DAVID LEAN DIRECTS NOEL COWARD DVD set. Four excellent films made during the war. Two are in glorious technicolor, All fully restored and look like they were made yesterday but capture the real wartime spirit.
They are
BRIEF ENCOUNTER.

I would wash it in cold water with minimal agitation or just soak and drain and dry it very slowly.. Even piece of denim I owned has been washed on a regular bass. Once through initial shrinking that's it.
If HD decided to get a limited run of jackets from time honoured makers and even including Dehen they will have to substantially upcharge over these brands to maintain profit margins. Perhaps too small time for them though it would work IMO and help restore their reputation. Lots of HD riders...
It is just staggering how far the Harley Davisdson brand has been trashed. On Ebay at the moment there are over 60,000 items of apparel including over 5.000 jackets along with over 40,000 items of Walmart and souvenier type products all with in your face Harley branding. Most made in cheap...
Ex member Louis whatshisname is up to old tricks and causing a stir over at VLJ. Seems like the resident thread hijacker and know all over there has taken him under his wing. Funny.

While some people buy repro jackets and rarely wear them to keep them pristine, have fickle tastes or to preserve resale value, many are enthusiasts who own multiple jackets thus never get worn out. I rotate mine after one or two wears so its going take decades to get any of them hard worn.
Good question I was wondering myself. I have two Schott Western/Rancher fringed jackets similar to the one Dennis Hopper wore in Easy Rider.
The Rancher dates from the early sixties with the Made in New York label and has chunky leather buttons. The name changed Western from the early 80's is...
