A macchiato from a local espresso roastery. Just two ingredients: espresso, and a kiss of steamed milk. None of this sickly-sweet caramelly Starbucks stuff.
Definitely a "special occasion" thing. But most people today wouldn't know the difference if you wore it with a regular suit and overcoat as opposed to white tie or morning dress.
My approach is to go for a more contemporary fit (slimmer) with classic/vintage details. This results in a visual impression that is stylish for today yet retro at the same time. I love heritage brands that specialize in that sort of thing, such as Original Penguin and PF Flyers.

For casual wear, I prefer my PF Flyers or Converse All-stars. I even wear them when doing strenuous, high-impact exercise. That's what they were designed for, after all.
I think a shiny lapel face is standard; if the lapel face is the same fabric as the rest of the jacket, most people may not recognize the garment as a dinner jacket/tuxedo.

I do my shopping at all kinds of grocery stores, but I have never seen fried herring in packages. I only see them pickled, or salted and packed in oil.
