Sleeve measurement is from the center of the collar, down to the shoulder seam, down to the elbow, then all the way to the end of the knitted cuff.
Just like a dress shirt.
This would explain the 37" sleeve in question.
There is a reason why so many manufacturers have added these extra pockets. Having jackets with both styles, the extra side pocket is a winner for me (and many others).
I would suggest buying two jackets in different sizes, then keep the one that fits best. I did this with my G&B A-2, bought a 42 and a 44. Kept the 42.
Actually, the Alpha is kinda nice for a beater. Got a couple old Wilsons Leather jackets that fill that roll pretty good. Wad 'em up, pack 'em in whatever, and throw them on.
