Yes, it is. I came real close to buying their G-1. But went for the Cockpit instead. I have gotten many compliments on that A-2!

How about "Twelve O'Clock High"? The movie, not the TV series. I liked them both as they showed the interpersonal relationships and the human side of the struggles of war.
Went out today in Tokyo to get a book for my wife. Left my umbrella at the hotel as it was not raining then. Big mistake! The good news is that my Cockpit CWU-55P shed water like a duck's back. Perhaps any satin / nylon jacket would do the same, but I was impressed at how the rain drops just...

You guys take yourselves way too seriously! The term 'Museum Piece" simply refers to a jacket that could be on display in a WWII era museum because of it's authenticity. Nothing grubby or dismissive here. You can also wear it proudly.
Much like a P-51D Mustang. Many argue it should be on...
There are many to choose from, so you will find exactly what you are looking for. Funny, the first thing I look for is side hand-warmer pockets. Spent too many days and nights walking around Europe in the middle of winter, wind blowing, freezing temps, gloves on, and no place to keep my hands...
This supports to some degree my observations at a military shop in Frankfurt. They have every Alpha jacket in their inventory, and I tried most of them on. Very impressed! And not just with the construction, but the overall quality of the materials used.
Alongside the Alpha's were examples from...
There ya go. As far as the knits are concerned, for everyday wear, a nylon-wool blend is far more resistant to that annoying pilling issue, according to G&B. And a nylon/cotton blend lining lends itself to far easier egress, and ingress.
But for those who want a museum piece to admire...
You might also consider the Cockpit WWII Government Issue A-2, in horsehide.
This taken from their website:
Awarded over 100 military decorations including the Medal of Honor from the US, this A-2 was made famous by General Douglas MacArthur who wore his custom made horsehide A-2. Manufactured...
While we are at it, how about both G&B and Cockpit USA satin/nylon? Better or worse than Alpha? Today the Alpha's are imported, where the aforementioned are made in the USA.
A close exam of both my Vintage Alpha B-15, and my Cockpit CWU-55P (both USA made), reveals a very tight woven nylon...
Nick - good looking jacket, and you wear it nicely. G&B makes great stuff, for sure. Several of my friends (those who are out of jail) bought G&B jackets on my recommendation.
Fanch - I was seriously considering a trip to SAN to do just that...try on their stuff. But when factoring the cost and time involved, just not worth the effort.
Since the 21st Century Cockpit A-2 size 40R fit me like a glove, the customer service gal suggested a size 42R in the G-1. She said...
Yes, they are nice to visit with. They just don't do what they promise. At least this was my experience over the last few days. Maybe I called at a bad time...
