Driving dad's old cars ('56 Chevy and '57 Chevy), I've learned to plan my stops way ahead of time. I've learned that in emergency situations, drum brakes and bias-ply tires result in some exciting driving gymnastics. I've learned that you have to assume every car stopped at every side street...
This is my dad's 1956 Chevy Bel Air and 1957 Chevy Bel Air:
The '56 is a bone-stock V8, 2-barrel, Wonderbar and rear-speaker car. He wanted dual exhausts but otherwise the car is equipped just like it left the factory.
The '57 is a combination of 2 project cars (it took both cars to make...
Sorry in advance for such a longwinded post. A couple of thoughts on this...
I went through a straw hat search last spring / summer, mainly to have sun protection at car shows. I wanted the tightest weave I could afford. I looked everywhere I knew to look in Louisville and neighboring cities...
That's a good point, and I hadn't thought about that. My dad has restored a couple of old cars from the '50s and those old heaters get extremely warm compared to newer cars. It does seem, unless I'm making a long trip, that my car only gets warm about the time I get where I'm going.
Also worth mentioning, the story of Titanic's sister ship Olympic is quite interesting too. It was a calamity-prone ship in its first year or so of service (pre-Titanic), yet ended up with a remarkably stellar service record.
I can only speak for myself, as I'm guilty of this… I wear my coat in the car and I run the heater in the car. Then I get acclimated to warm air AND the coat. So, when I go into some places to eat after being in my warm car, it feels cold to me even though the temperature is perfectly...
Yes it is—good eye!
Where I'm at, western hats are fairly common. In fact, I have a stingy brim straw hat I got at a department store for $10—the furthest thing from a cowboy hat—and I get called cowboy in it. :-)
I started season 4 of Mad Men tonight. I've seen the whole series several times over, except for the final 7 episodes. I think the last episode I watched tonight was #3 of the season.
Interesting to run across this. Just yesterday, I watched a YouTube video contradicting many accepted beliefs about the collision (and much of what was portrayed in the movie): The guys who made the video are making what looks to be an amazing computer game with an incredibly accurate and...
I bought this on eBay last week:
It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.
Even though the original tags are gone, it still had a price tag in the sweatband and the pictures looked like new. Here's hoping it comes out of the box looking as good as the pictures.
Hello!
So, tl:dr version is this: I got my first nice brimmed hat last summer, a panama straw hat. I loved it so much (and it was SO useful) that I wanted a winter hat, too. I ordered a Bailey Briar using a coupon code right after Christmas. While looking for information about the Briar, I...
