I agree, they look perfect.
Val gave me a wide slip-on ribbon for Christmas and I think it looks pretty good on the Sunbody, although I've got the taper on the band sitting pretty far back. I worked the brim a little and pushed the crown up about 1/2", gave it deeper dents. I'm pretty happy...
You’re right, it should. Something is definitely out of spec. Several mechanics have looked it over and it’s still as temperamental as ever.
It’s a fairly fresh rebuild at 12k miles, though, and I know its quirks well enough to get it running again when it throws a fit. It’s a 350 and not a...
The '57 Chevy I've got needs coaxing if it sits longer than 2 hours. No kidding, I've driven it to work and had to re-time it in the parking lot just to go to lunch. I had to adjust the timing to leave a car show that I drove to back in September, too. No idea why it's so finicky, but it is...
At this point, I've got three cars sitting in storage. Two are classics on reproduction bias plys and one is my modern daily driver with cheap radials — the car with radials hasn't been driven 100 miles in the past three years, it may have gone 50 miles in all that time. I've never had a problem...
My fiancé bought me a Havana Retro Classic from Ultrafino during their Black Friday sale and gave it to me for Christmas (along with a brown cap that has earmuffs built in for working out in the cold, a couple of slip-on ribbons, and a horsehair brush).
The week before Christmas I saw the University of Kentucky Jazz Ensemble perform just a few miles north of where I live. It was technically a practice set for a performance they were doing in Chicago, but it was awesome nonetheless.
Also, it made me realize how much I want to move to a city...
I got 8 Martin Denny albums for Christmas, all Scamp releases from the mid- to late-90s. Crystal clear sound, even on my 500 watt home theater. I find it extremely relaxing.
The mono 1957 recording of Exotica is my favorite so far.
Welcome! I like the hat in your picture, it doesn’t look cheap.
I’m guessing you wouldn’t be happy with a wool hat long-term. I bought one before I found this place, and right out of the box it was miserable — it was a floppy, shapeless mess, and that was the way it looked brand new with all...
I’m not much of a drinker, but I love a good Cuba Libre. We make a version with Dr. Pepper instead of Coke that’s pretty good. Fresh lime is key.
Beyond that, I like mojitos, and I can’t think of any other cocktails that I’ve even tried.
We’re getting ready to make Cuban sandwiches tomorrow for New Year’s. We’re going to smoke the pork roast today, Val is going to make Cuban bread, and then we’ll assemble tomorrow. We use cast iron skillets to press them. It would be a lot easier to get Cuban, but it’s a 3-hour drive from my...
I use a cheap badger brush, Walmart shave soap, a 1967 Gillete adjustable razor, and I just started using Feather blades. I usually finish off with a shave lotion, never an aftershave.
There's nobody around here I'd trust to service a vintage watch, so I tend to buy newer watches with a vintage vibe. Someday I do want a mid-60s Omega Seamaster, though.
I made an imgur album of my current rotation. Nothing special, nothing extremely vintage, but I'm happy...
My dad died and left behind an entire dresser drawer with nothing except pocket knives in boxes, going back to the '80s. I don't know that I'd ever carry any of them, but someday I need to go through and get pictures of the collection.
I use to carry a Case XX three-blade knife, but then after...
This is the only vintage piece in my rotation, I usually wear it with suits. I think it's from the late '70s, I found it in a pawn shop about ten years ago and the guy working the counter sold it to me for $10 under the agreement that I wouldn't bring it back if it didn't run or wouldn't keep...
I agree, it's a very nice color. And, yeah, hats are very hard to get accurate pictures of. The pictures on the one I looked made it seem chocolate brown. That's very nice. I have a feeling you'll get a lot more use out of it than you think you will now.
I just bought this one. I couldn't pass it up for the price. It will need a new ribbon, but I hope it becomes my cold weather hat (and by that, I mean I hope it fits me). If it doesn't fit me, Val is one size smaller than me and she wears most of my hats, so it will still go to good use.
I passed up a deal on an acorn Sytlemaster in my size back in the summer because I didn't like the way it looked in the pictures. YOUR pictures are making me regret that very much. Great looking hat.
