Got a boater/skimmer - finally!
Liked this one because it has a 3" brim and the older-looking thicker straw. Hopefully, it's as nice as it looks in the photo.

I've been trying to find a period WWI-WWII Stetson campaign hat in my size - huge-melon - for some time now. I've been unsuccessful. Have any of you had one custom made and if so could you give me some advice? Or, if some of you hat makers have made one, I'd be interested to hear about it...
Mark,
Your Joe Kidd hat is a beaut! I have one question though, where's your broomhandle Mauser? IMHO, you can't "do" Joe Kidd without a broomie to blast away at Duval and the rest of the baddies.
Nice safari hat too.
John
This probably has been discussed before but I can't find it in a search. If it has then please direct me to the topic.
Newbie questions -
After watching the Raiders movie last night on TV and seeing the new Crystal Skull movie last weekend, I've noticed that Dr. Jones hat has changed...
"Gently explain to her that there are worse things to be addicted to - like alcohol, drugs and powdered doughnuts. Especially those three things in combination"
There was a semester or three in college when I was addicted to all three of these. At least, I think I was - it's still kind of...
Afternoon folks,
I've got a Bradford "35" silverbelly "open road" that I want to turn into a wide-brim fedora-style - 3-inches wide to be exact. It has a very thin matching-color ribbon on it - 1/2-inch. I'd like to put a wider, contrasting ribbon - maybe a medium to dark gray color but I'm...
donCarlos,
I'm more upset with:
- never had to rescue a beautiful damsel in distress
than not carrying/using a whip. You'd think just once in the field I'd come across any beautiful damsel much less one in distress?!
John
I have mixed feelings. I've always loved the films and this one hopefully should be just as good as one and three (didn't like two very much). I don't usually get hat comments because my hats are usually wide-brim cowboy style to keep the sun off and I'm usually in the field, 20 miles from...
The two people that I've heard in my circle (I am an archaeologist) who were the real-life examples for Indiana Jones were Robert Braidwood and James Henry Breasted, both of the University of Chicago. In fact, the name Ravenwood - for Indy's mentor and Marion's father was supposedly a tribute...
Deacon,
It's the only 3-mag Luger pouch that I've seen too. Unfortunately, it is unmarked. Someone told me they though it looked like a Bulgarian military style piece, but who knows?
John
A little fun with a turn of the century rig plus accoutrements
Luger M1900 in an Abercrombie and Fitch holster with an umarked belt and 3-mag pouch, 1887 Winny shotgun, Stetson 1900 bowler, badge made from a Mexican coin, and Elgin silver pocket watch. What every well-dressed lawman might have...
Sorry about the live ebay auction thing - I guess I should read the rules once in a while. It's a vintage Mallory - not mine nor do I know the owner.
I thought the rule of thumb was that hats should not be stretched more than one size?
John
Because it is my ideal non-cowboy hat. This may be a simple question and I guess this falls under those hats called "fedoras" but there seems to be alot of variation within that category. I've seen these large brims called "gangster" hats, "swing" hats, also open road style. Is this large...
James,
Don't think I haven't been looking - I need a gray one and one with curved side-brims, and one with a wider brim and . . . . . . . - addictive dang things!
John
