    Any Do's & Don'ts in military clothing?

To revive this interesting thread, I have always worn a lot of military surplus or military-associated clothing both for its rugged, practical elegance and because I am interested in the British Army and Royal Navy. I agree with many of the contributors in going for generic but authentic...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Hang on in there - it won't be long before Fall comes: a really beautiful season in Upstate New York.

The 'patriotic' comment was 'English irony' (the thing that Jeremy Corbyn claims to know all about!). I am delighted that it is a cool bank holiday weekend and I have been wearing my Dark Grey Mix WP with patches, epps and pen pocket. The USMC sweater is a gift from a friend. When I get it I...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

How very unpatriotic of you. ...! More seriously, although I have worn Breton sweaters occasionally, I have very rarely departed from British military or fisherman's sweaters. This is not for nationalistic reasons, but reasons of design and aesthetics. The British WP is simply unbeatable and...

That's true. They promised to let me know when their new WW2 WPs become available: they will be in olive and black, I'm told.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

During a cool interlude a few days ago I was able to don an olive Army Guernsey and enjoy a woolly evening!!! Now that we have entered the 'Dog Days' of late summer (after a searing heatwave), I am longing for crisp mornings and evenings, soft light, autumn leaves - and the chance to put on a WP...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I've sent you [by PM] a link to a UK-based Alpaca specialist. Khunu's yak wool submariner looks interesting. I used to have a Tibetan yak wool sweater many years ago.

It looks interesting. I'll look and see if there are any Alpaca sweater specialists who might do it - but it might take me a few days to get back to you. May I ask what country you are based in?

I haven't heard of this: have you a link to an image or website?

I think I didn't explain it clearly enough and so I've found an example (see above). You will see that the belt is worn around the waistband and there is a 'billowing' (really nice word - thanks Mr Fading Fast) effect just above and indeed just below the belt. Just above the belt the sweater...

I shall put up a picture - I’m looking forward to it even though it won’t get much wear until autumn (Fall).

Giant Pith Helmet Thread of Doom

I'm afraid I'm starting, just tentatively, to want one of these. And with me, interests like this turn into obsessions, as my ridiculously large collection of commando sweaters and Guernseys testifies.

I only partially agree with you, Sir. Pulling the sweater down can work very well both in terms of looks and utility when wearing it under a full-length overcoat. This is especially true when it happens to be very cold (nice thought during this early summer hot spell) because the Woolly Pully...

They are black, but I can see that it’s a bit hard to tell on the larger photo.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

After a hot and humid week, it has been just about cool enough late this evening for me tentatively to don a Navy Woolly Pully: it feels good to have been able to do this again.

I love the other three seasons, each in its own way, but loathe and detest summer! I'm already longing for the 'season of mist and mellow fruitfulness'.

Great minds think alike. I wear my Woolly Pullies (and all my wool sweaters) just like the guy you highlight. It is the most tasteful and effective way to wear them, especially for a WP or other sweater of military origin.

A nice image of a chap in a Woolly Pully. It makes me look forward to wearing them again when the temperature falls.
