It cost me $20 + the gas to drive up there! I've had them do a few things for me and not only is the work outstanding, the prices cannot be beat. The are currently replacing the sweatband in my Resistol "beater" that fell apart last week - $25.
I have not posted here in a while since you all have seen most of my hats more than once - but since there are now some new ones, and "new" looks for some old ones, I thought I would share. This is my same Akubra Campdraft, but I had Texas Hatters trim the brim down to 2-5/8" (same size as the...
The wait until January is too long - so I took my current CD to Texas Hatters and had them cut the brim to 2-5/8" and re-bind the edge (I think they even used the same ribbon). Maybe this will hold me over until the new one gets here!
If anyone is interested, I just listed a Smithbilt western hat in the Classifieds:

I just posted a great vintage Resistol San Antonio in the Classifieds if anyone is interested (the same one as my profile picture):

New in the box Smithbilt 3X white felt western/cowboy hat, size 7-1/4. A beautiful and well-made hat that I bought for someone else, but it was not their size. Not my size either and just interested in getting my costs back. The hat is in the original shipping box and I am told it is from the...
This is a Byer-Rolnick era Resistol San Antonio (but not marked as to the model)/ “Open Road styled” hat in a tawny/medium brown color. As I recall, it was 3X quality marked on the sweatband. The hat came to me with a cattleman crease and was in “well used” (but not abused) condition. It was...
I took the hat with me to Texas Hatters in Lockhart yesterday while picking up another hat - David advised there were several issues that caused the problem - (1) the acid in my sweat reacting with the way the sweatband was constructed; (2) the sweatband was likely a very thin "bonded leather"...
Thanks for all the input - I own a number of vintage Resistols and have not had this happen before. Looks like a trip to the hatter before the week is out in now on my schedule to convert this hat into a much more expensive "beater."
Thanks again!

Sweatband issue
I bought a "beater" vintage Resistol/Byer-Resnick western hat a little while back and had gotten some feedback here in this thread on the "BR 15" markings. The hat is in decent shape overall, but has a few spots here and there, and since I got it for a great price, I decided to...
