hanging around
It's more a case of something eating it! I've got a lot of clothes in wardrobes and mould is a big problem here in summer, especially now with all the floods we are having, my wife is pulling her hair out "not more jackets...aaaahhh!" etc, but hey, I only paid $A15 for it, so it...
wasted
Well I'll look for the photos, I inherited a whole pile from Cookie the photographer who documented the Hoey for years, I played there a lot in the 80's, in about 5 different bands I think. It was a wild joint back then.
yep
It has indeed got the yellow reinforcement stitch, so it's the real thing, I dunno what it's worth tho, they seem to fluctuate wildly on OFAS, might be a keeper, although that means I gotta find the jeans to match......
.
long time gone
Some of those photos look a lot like Jurgen Vollmer's stuff, I remember the early 80's sydney rockabilly crew quite well, such as my old mate Blue Gene the barman from the Piccadilly and I've got some great shots of bands like The Wasted Ones at the Hoey.
tricky date
thanks 4 that,
there are no numbers on the rear of the button rivets but they have a rectangular indent that is sufficiently irregular in placement for me to assume that it was hand fed into whatever machine punch was used, which may or may not be an indicator of age, depending on...
OK
I got this today, . it has the BIG E label on the pocket, but the inner label on the yoke is gone. It has no fruitpockets and the denim seems fairly stiff and there is some wear on the insides of the "buttons' that make me think it might be the real thing, it could of course be of recent...
nononono
My sax player did it one night with one of those polyester "gangster" fedoras they buy from surf shops, as some sort of ironic statement...he was counselled.
where's there's smoke
Wasn't it also a factor that the repeal of prohibition had meant there was a whole lot of agents sitting round with virtually nothing to do, so a new bogeyman had to be found to keep them all employed, and Anslinger was put to work demonising pot heads, who at that time...
Not quite
My father told me he was a spiv after the war before he emigrated and went on the straight and narrow, and he often regaled me with stories of his suits.

feelings
It's actually as black as I've ever seen any hat; darker than what I would see as charcoal, assuming that would have some grey notes, it's the flash that's doing it I think.
The texture is quite firm, as it's a Squatter, they are more rigid than your Featherweight Squatter, (I have...
why sure
I mentioned it here
http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?p=474442#post474442
and the latest results are....it looks faded at the front of the crown but that's reflection from the flash...the thing is mint as new
Silly Question!
I picked this jet black Akubra Squatter up on Xmas eve, having got it for $A10 on the bay, soaked it in a hot shower the next morning, (it was a size too small) then wore it in all day through Xmas dinner etc as you see here, and now it fits like a glove.
tight
Those are the official dimensions on the label you see there but in real terms just a bit tight on me, and I take a 42, yet I comfortably take 36 in a Cooper A2 so I reckon about a 40, if you want exact feet and inches I'll take some measurements tomorrow and send them on
forgotten
This one amazed me, i'd never heard of it

and I really like this one
They hosed them out;: A story of Australian air gunners in the Royal Air Force by John Beede, a great read
old story
Actually I meant when Britain joined what was then the "Common Market" back in the 60's and dropped the favoured import status of products from the former colonies such as Australia, it nearly destroyed the dairy industry here and had repercussions that last to this day, there are a...
A question for UK loungers: what are the name brands of vintage fedoras over there? All we seem to hear about these days is Dobbs Mallory etc, even over here I only ever see Akubra or local Stetsons, never british hats which one would have thought very common in this part of the world...maybe...
