Hats in the rain, do they bleed so to speak?

Well, Mr. Alan, I bought the Saxon before coming here as a member. The local hatter did exchange the black one I had for the Caribou I have now, and spent an hour fitting me in various hats he had. He had crushable wool, porkpies, a few homburgs, westerns, a few Borsalino, a couple of Dobbs...

    What are you wearing today??

Torp, that hat looks great on you. Christy, very nice look, and I wish my mom had made me things, though she knitted and made great things for the girls in the family.

Hats in the rain, do they bleed so to speak?

22 degrees Celcius is 72 Fahrenheit or so. Yeah, I think the Saxon is a bit on the heavier side for a felt hat (but what do I have to compare that to, lol). It would have looked better today since it is a dressier hat. The Panama looks great with a suit, or totally casual but the coloring is...

Hats in the rain, do they bleed so to speak?

Ah, good news then. Well I wore my Panama today with navy blue pants and a light blue shirt with some faint yellow stripes. No tie or coat. Somehow, the panama did not look right. I bet with my Saxon it would have.

    Senator Jack's brush with greatness

It would be tempting to say, hey Paul, Sam here, remember the day at your mother's ...... But really, I would react in one of two ways, either to say nothing and just watch, or ask him if I could politely interpose and have my picture taken with him. Sam

Hats in the rain, do they bleed so to speak?

Well, I feel better about the Saxon. I guess I will never know until it rains, but it I know it is raining, Ill at least have an umbrella. Or I will wear the Akubra. But you never know when you might get trapped, and so, there is at least I guess a 50-50 shot that it won't run.

Hats in the rain, do they bleed so to speak?

I was reading up in a thread and someone mentioned that newer hats, like my Stetson Saxon, do not hold up to rain as well and that the dyes in them run or bleed. Really? I do not anticipate having my Stetson in a downpour and if so, well, Id be under an umbrella, but then again, I can see me...

if you don't like the Fed IV....

So, will I notice a difference between the felt on a new Stetson and an Akubra Stylemaster? Since the Akubra will be rarely seen with a suit, will it be okay for semi dress?

    Re-bash the Stylemaster?

As soon as Sam at EA contacts me, Im ordering a Stylemaster. Take pics if you rebash, as I may want to. A guy in Nashville here has one, so three Tennesseans with Stylemasters. Styling and profiling in the Volunteer State

    I love the Fed IV!!

David, you aint helping me decide between the Fed IV and the Stylemaster. I am liking a lower crown so I need to go read up on the dimensions of what the Stetson Saxon is and compare it to these two hats and then decide. I know I want a taupe hat for my casual to sportscoats wear, as the Saxon...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Doc, thank you for that picture. I am this close to ordering the Stylemaster. My wife loves the dimensions of the Stetson and seeing on my head helps in that regard. So I am trying for a 2" or so brim and a wider ribbon, in a taupe color or so. I like the finished edge of that Stylemaster...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Goose, I love the pic of you in that Hampton. I am wanting my first Akubra in a good taupe sort of color, to go with casual and up to this side of a sportscoat. I am afraid that there would be too much crown for the Fed IV compared to my Stetson Saxon, and the Hampton and the Stylemaster are...

    a few of my outfits........

Looks sharp to me. While I am not a fan of colored shirts (blacks, greens, reds), you are a bit younger than me (I am 49) and think white and light blue are the bulk of what I have, and two or three pink shirts. I might add a lilac to make a purple tie pop in the future but that is still under...

    what's wrong with this tie?

Try a four-in-hand knot and see if that does not dimple better for you. A chalk stripe would look better with that tie. To my eye, there are too many stripes in your suit and therefore, the striping on your tie does not pop. Try a paisley or foulard with that suit. But a chalkstripe would...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Ephraim: That hat looks taupe to me, but you are there with it, so I take your word. It looks great and having seen that, I started a thread about, well, I just think I look better in a felt hat than a panama hat. I want a taupe hat to wear around on weekend, when I come home from work and...

Can't help it, I like how I look in a felt hat

Well, I did don navy blue socks so sitting at my desk, I am obsessing over how I could be a dufus. To my credit, I do not turn on the light while letting my wife sleep a bit longer, as I leave the house by 7:00 each morning.

Ok, do hat-wearers have other common characteristics?

I know we all take different routes to getting a first hat. For me, it was reading up on the shave forums (shavemyface.com), or askandyaboutclothes, or even fountainpennetwork. I know there are men there that share things that I like so I was wondering if the reverse is true. So, who uses a...

Can't help it, I like how I look in a felt hat

We have 80 degree weather now, well, until tomorrow, and getting dressed, I just had to slip on my Stetson Saxon in caribou to see how it would look with my black suit with blue stripes (not jet black, but darker than a navy suit definitely). Wow, I looked sharp IMO. It is after all, my first...
