My everyday kick about boots. Lucchese calf comfortable as tenny's. 4 yrs. old and 1 resole. And don't be so hard on Ariat. I have a pair, not bad for $160.00 boot.:)
I went in about 30 years ago when the Resistol Hat Factory was much smaller. I found a 20X Silverbelly Beaver Resistol that had a small notch in the brim with a cattleman crown. I had them cut the brim down to 3" and shape it a bit. Cost me $45.00. Worked in it for 20 yrs. until it was wasted.:)
I have steamed dozens of hats straw and fur. I always use a sauce pan filled half way with water. Put foil over whole top but leave an opening on one part to let steam out. Boil water until it steams and cut the flame down a little. Steam the brim or crown and shape to your liking. Let it cool...
I know this thread is old but I just joined. I cut all my Fur, Beaver, Stiff Felt hats down to 2 3/4". I use a guide made out of thick cardboard and pencil to trace around brim. Cut with scissors and sand down any rough edges. Steam to shape and your done.
