So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I've experienced that cuff device once before long ago it seems, but never again. In my experience the nurses who come in before the doctor to take vitals seem to avoid conversation altogether. Probably out of fear that you'll ask them a question that they can't and probably shouldn't answer...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

re: "Would you rather the school staff spend its time -- and your money -- hand-writing full thank-you letters to every single donor? Or would you rather that staff spend its time and money doing what a school is supposed to do?" The school (it is not a charity) has a full time development...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

We recently made a modest donation ($100 actually) to my son's school for which we received a thank you post card! I've been on a slow simmer about that ever since getting it in the mail last week. We pay full tuition out of pocket to attend that school, and contributing yet more is something...

    Help with definition

Thank you for your insight. It had never occurred to me that it might refer to sledge runners, which would make sense and fit the concept of something made of bent wood that applies to locomotion. I posted the same question on an other military oriented forum and share the reply below. This...

    Help with definition

I seek the collective wisdom and experience of the lounge. I am working with a text from 1950 and I'm having difficulty translating a word from Yiddish. The etymology is most likely via Polish or possibly Ukrainian or Russian. Transliterated from the Hebrew letters, the word is "obodarnye". In...

    What's For Breakfast...

Yep, lived on the north coast of Ohio for almost 20 years now and still haven't found a consistently good pizza. It's those dam conveyor belt ovens they use, and their refusal to actually cook the cheese until it's browned (couldn't do that, then it would be burnt!). I swear they just threaten...

    What's For Breakfast...

Well, there you have it! We've been known to order extra pizza for just that purpose, but at the same risk as when we were planning on leftovers. Problem is we're in the Cleveland area and we can't find a good pizza to save our lives. So having extra BAD pizza on hand doesn't necessarily help...

    What's For Breakfast...

We do that too, though, more often than that we end up finishing the pizza a bit later on, leaving nothing for breakfast or lunch the next day.

    What's For Breakfast...

Scrambled eggs with diced baloney in them. Just like I used to have when I was a kid. I was catching some headlines while eating them when my wife came into the living room and asked what I had cooked because it smelled wonderful. Knowing her predilections I asked her if she was sure she...

    movie hats that inspired you...

Yes that is nice but I think I prefer Paul Henried's (Victor Laszlo) more. Great style and proportions, very classy. And he wears it that way too!

    Installing Wind Cords

I would have thought so too but no, not at all. Tucked in behind the sweat band at the bow, I've never even perceived it there. Think about it, where on the circumference of a hat is the least pressure against the head? The sides right? Worth a try anyway if you are so inclined. I've had no...

    Installing Wind Cords

I'd suggest tying it to a small shirt button inside and under the sweat band. If and when the chord is engaged by a considerable gust of wind, a button would be less likely to pull through the felt than any size knot would probably make.

Elmer Bernstein's theme to the Magnificent Seven.

    Fair play

Thus far I haven't seen anything beyond my understanding of the term. We all seem to be on the same page.

    Fair play

It's getting about time that we start looking for a high school for our son. One of the schools we've visited recently (for the second time actually) was the high school that recently merged with our son's current school. So there's somewhat of a connection there. He can actually already attend...

    Experimenting on foods.

Yeah, but if you want absolute nirvana go for the sea scallops wrapped in bacon.

    Your TOP Bogart movie..?

I agree. I've long said that Bogart was pretty amazing at capturing the minutest details of characterization. - just the look in his eyes, the way he exhales. Almost imperceptible changes in demeanor.
