Whereas, Having grown up with Akubra's everywhere, I'm constantly amazed that anyone wears anything else.
The price compares very favorably the quality is fantastic and they last a very long time. Although with the Aus$ and the US$ being on par these days there may not be so much of a cost...
Head comfort and the dereeded lid
Woodfluter,
The horrible old hat is in fact fantastically comfortable, that said it is a size 61 while I am a 59, so it is a bit larger than I should have. However I suspect it has shrunk at least 1 size. So all I need to do is fold the sweat in half and it...
You Sir,
do not have (nor understand) the heart of a collector.
The point of a collecion is not anything to do with what you have use for.
Ask a snow dome collector how often they 'use' their snow domes.
a spoon collector how often they stir their tea
collecting something is taking a step...
more data coming soon
Well, I might have another view for you in about a week. I have just dropped The Arena off at the Adelaide Hatters for a bit of repair work, including a new sweat band.
So it is about to become 'rereeded'
I'll let you know if it makes any difference.
not quite an answer
I've got a nasty old 'The Arena' which I found by the side of the Stuart Highway 300km from Alice Springs.
Why mention this?
Because it had been de-reeded with a pair of pliers and a hack saw (by the look of it).
It is still a wearable hat and has been my bush hat for...
that's MAJOR Hiddins OAM.
The hat in the photo seems like an exagerated cartoon of his bash.
The hat he wore for the filming of the series now lives in the Australian National Museum, so that one must be a new version of the bash. I think I prefer the old, I just don't know about that backward...
problems? umm
In Australia at least, the Snowy River was very popular during the 80s but it has been replaced by the cattleman (in terms of popularity, according to the evidence of my eyes).
The Snowy River probably came to be associated with the Hobby Farmer who wanted people to think he was...
I have a hook
There is a coat hook on the back of my office door, where the hat hangs (and jacket too).
I like having my own office, make me feel important.
I'm enjoying the board, should have signed up ages ago
Today I wore my green Akubra flat top to take the kids to a museum,
wore the grey Stylemaster to go out to dinner with the family (my son wore his Lancer, a soft grey trilby looks perfecton a 9 year old).
Right now I'm wearing a recently...
looking good
That's a good job with the bash. Not much too it is there? That said I prefer a wet bash to a dry one, but the fun is in the trying. I'm in the middle of remodeling an Akubra stockman which I've just picked up from a hatrack at my fathers 5 years after I left it there (wondered...
I laughed until I stopped
Now that I have uncloaked I might as well post on this thread, which I find funny.
I lived for many years in Central Australia so I can say I have worn a fur felt when the ambient temp was in the high 40 C. (that's about 3000 in Fahrenheit I believe)
An ugly black...
My new one
Hey folks,
I'm a lurker of about 12 months, happily reading and feeling no need to post. However, yesterday I found myself a new hat and I know nothing about it. So I thought I'd ask, is anyone out there familiar with an Akubra Flat Top? What would it have looked like originally (I'm...
