Guess my house would just melt since it's covered in vinyl siding.
It's called "growing up". If you were still intensely interested in the same things as a high school student then you'd have something to worry about.
Which is not to say that there aren't some interests that you carry throughout life. But even those go through a maturing process.
WWV is the time station you are remembering and it's still there.

CHU is the Canadian equivalent and is also still in operation.
The motivations for the union actvities of the 30's seem clear. For the life of me I cannot comprehend the motivations of the "occupy whatever" crowd. They seem completely diffuse and unfocused on anything beyond slogans that actually don't mean anything.
Right now I'm sitting on the back porch enjoying the 3rd week of my recent retirement having a JR genuine counterfeit Cuban and a Pepsi. Today is the last day before a cold snap sets in and it promises to get to chilly and wet for a while.
Like quite a few here I started wearing brimmed hats after dealing with some skin cancers about 20 years ago. As long as I'm going to wear them anyway I wanted to wear decent hats. I stumbled into the FL looking for hat info, which is certainly abundent here.
I'm too old to care much about...
Wives tend to come around. When I first started wearing brimmed hats regularly in the late 80's my better half thought it strange and I caught the usual heat about why so many hats? The other day I grabbed a baseball hat on the way out the door and my wife commented that I didn't look like me.
Somehow I don't think that "culture" consists of sitting in front of the tv watching VH1 in any of its varieties.
In music, I'm not sure at all that there's any widespread interest in the 60's. But there is targeted programming for those interested in any particular genre. With so many...
Here's a factor we haven't really considered yet, but the question posed about how we were raised vs today made me remember it. I was born on the leading edge of the boomers, 1947. I have 4 younger sisters spanning a 12 year birthing period Five kids in a family wasn't at all unusual. Lot's of...
I really thought the no white after Labor Day rule originated in the northeast, not the south. It stays hot longer down here and common sense dictates that you dress for the weather. Some years I've not worn winter clothes until mid January and then only a few short weeks.
I remember the Navy...
Yes, in a word. Inside is where their parents have given them their own tv's, video games, pc and internet. All of which are more fun to the kids than running around outside. Add in the basic lack of physical fitness because of sitting around and it's a vicious circle.
Kids in my neighborhood are always out playing without parents hovering over them. At least up to a certain age. After that they are more interested in other things. That's nothing particularly new.
By the time you reach high school you naturally get more interested in school activities...
When I was a kid we had one tv in the house, in the living room, receiving over the air channels, and we kids watched what my Dad wanted to watch or we didn't watch at all. After the homework was finished, and not before, we could watch what we wanted until Dad got home from work. Saturday...
