No doubt about practicality of a utility belt, but West German police were for a long time deliberately not "militarized", for various shall we say historical reasons!
^ That publicity photo reminds me of a large photo showing Bogey in a trenchcoat which hung in the stairwell of Stollery's, a men's clothing store in Toronto (Ontario). I can't remember if it was that exact photo or a different one, but of course Bogey was often photographed in a trenchcoat...
Here's another data point: I was looking at a Japanese book I have and it has photos of a D spec MA-1 with orange liner, wool/cotton insulation, and vertical stitching made by Sportsmasters Inc dated 1969. So McQueen might have been wearing of those, too! haha
Okay, I dug through a file on my hard drive, and I found photos of two Greenbrier jackets with the vertical stitching (and wool insulation), both dated 1976. But I also found the following Alpha from 1978 with vertical stitching and wool insulation. So I guess McQueen could have been wearing...
Toys McCoy, a Japanese brand, was doing a repro and I posted photos of it in this thread last year or sometime.
According to wikipedia, filming started in September 1979, and his jacket looked mostly unworn, so I think it's likely he was wearing an NOS military jacket from the mid to late...
Well that's just it, this jacket is NOS. Even though it's not one of the over-hyped 1950s and 60s jackets, it's still a full-on military jacket in new condition, with wool/cotton insulation. There's not many like that left. Plus a seller could remind everyone that it's the jacket that McQueen...
Here's the official measurements (and drawings) from the military spec document MIL-DTL-43455K, dated August 2007 (surprisingly recent!). I can't find a newer spec document, so I guess the K version is the last for these coats.
It would likely have substantial value, given it's unworn condition and if it's a genuine military jacket (the date makes sense). Japanese buyers would probably snap it up for $$$. Take a look at the windflap under the zipper: does it have long rows of vertical stitching? Also, if poss, could...
Fred Willard. I loved him in those Christopher Guest mockumentaries.

The knit collars seem the wrong shape for A-1 jackets, at least from photos I've seen here and in books. I hope some of our A-1 experts will weigh in.
Incidentally, four players appear to be wearing early Chuck Taylors, which were like Model T's: only available in black.
Spring is here!! Yesterday I had to wear an insulated jacket and gloves with scarf. Today I wore a dress shirt under a thin jacket, and this afternoon I only need the shirt. This always happens, here in southern Ontario: the overnight switch from winter to spring, from parka to shirtsleeves. Not...
^ another great essay... is that LA?
Looks like Bronson does a couple of fishtail repros, the M51 looks particularly good, the M65 not so much (no hood for instance). Check them out here:
