    You tried the current version of the LVC Menlo Cossack - it's a different pattern entirely from the 2008 washed goat version, which is unlined and far more true to the 1920's version (not at all boxy - more like a goatskin shirt).

    Having owned several, I'd only really rate the much older (2007/8) washed goat version, which nailed the pattern and hide. The more recent Einstein jacket, if you can get past the price, also looks worth a closer look.

    Flip it, Seb. I had a similar experience with a Freewheelers Dust Bowl (posted elsewhere on here). It was a heartbreaker as it was superb (great condition, etc.), but it simply was too tight to wear comfortably.

    Zip fronted wind cheater in capeskin, 1930s, UK manufacture. Excellent condition - knits have been replaced at some point, but otherwise it’s in amazing condition for a 80+ year old jacket.

    Absolutely. Your taste is what counts. I commented on the aesthetics: for my taste it’s too snug; for you and others it’s not. I won’t be the one wearing it, so it’s all well.

    You've already highlighted that the AN-J-4 looks a size larger than you need; I feel that the reverse is true of the Shackleton (it might relax a bit of course, but it currently looks like you could do with a size up if you're planning to layer over a sweater).

    Thanks Craig - this one fits me very well indeed (Freewheelers do seem to run a size smaller than tagged). With an unexpected storm running across the UK today, it has brought the bonus of a cooler day to wear leather.
