Good leather jacket repairer in Melbourne area?

Tough one AdeeC. Off the top of my head I would maybe try Mars Leather in Elizabeth St. They used to make their own jackets and may if nothing else, be able to point you in the right direction. Maybe try a Militaria dealer such as IS Wright who are in Ballarat? Melbourne based members Seb Lucas...

    Aero Highwayman

Hi Tomek61, I think often break in times vary from person to person and the particular animal the hide came from. Some will tell you it takes a lifetime and some will say it takes a few weeks to see some kind of change in the hide. I think the thing to do is not to baby the jacket regardless...

Whats the deal with VAT and jackets into the US from abroad

As a matter of interest, when a UK manufacturer does not ship overseas duty free does the duty become pure profit on top of whatever Mark up they have on the item? Also, does the material the jacket is made of make any differance at the UK end when it comes to taxes charged? Regards Garry

    Moleskin Lining

I feel your pain Drax. I have a Teamster (brown FQHH) going into production this week and had the same last minute "what if I've got it wrong" worries about length and lining choice etc. Fanch made a good point that your first choice is usually your best decision. Moleskin is warm but not that...

    Teamster back length

Thanks for the resposes fellas. I'm dealing with Christine regarding the jacket Sloan and I have not discussed it with her. I think I will stick with the 29 Fanch. Thats the size I wanted when I ordered and I'm a great believer of sticking with first choices if unsure, ive just had too long to...

    Teamster back length

Hello! My Teamster is on the point of going into production and Christine has asked me to green light the spec's I have listed at post 14. This has got me sweating and as this is my first forray into top end leather, im possible getting bogged down in minor detail and second guessing myself...

Freddies of Pinewood 1950's jeans opinion.

Thanks for the responses guys. Fanch, I've gone with the straight cut Gustin Heavy Americans and am hoping they get here soon as I have high expectations of them. Edward, I'm not a fan of the low rise hipster jeans either and at 44 am well past them anyway. I'm happy with a bit of extra rise...

Freddies of Pinewood 1950's jeans opinion.

What's your opinion guys? I'm looking for a decent pair of quality jeans and I was thinking about this company. I have a pair of Heavy Americans on order with Gustin which seem to be taking forever as deliver was originally supposed to be mid December but has been put back to mid Jan at best...

    Iron Rangers or Wolverine 1000mi?

I have a pair of the Wolverines and while they are a great looking boot with chinos or some similar semi dress trousers, I find then a little narrow in the toe for regular jeans. Just person preference I suppose.

    Teamster back length

Great tip Fanch. I assume Chromexel leather being an oil based is more inclined to "ghosting"? I'll email Aero and add that to the order. Garry

    Teamster back length

Don't say their measurements are all over the place Bunyip, I'm losing enough sleep over this already! I just used their measuring guide on the website. Only thing that puzzled me is they don't ask for a sleeve length but I suppose they will get that from my height (6'3) and my chest...

    Teamster back length

Ok, the deal is done! I've gone for a size 44 which is apparently right for my measurements. Brown Chromexel FQHH. Have opted for a 29 inch back to keep it mid length (thanks DWD), inside pocket and the Mackenzie weathered medium weight tartan lining with football buttons. So now the wait...

    Teamster back length

Thanks for the response fellas. Fanch, your jacket was the inspiration for me getting one, its an absolute belter! I had like the look of the Teamster for ages but was unsure of which hide to choose then I saw yours. Have you had any problems with the oils coming off onto clothing? Is the...

    Teamster back length

Hello all, I'm at the point of ordering an Aero Teamster in FQHH and I'm wondering what the standard back length would be for a fella my height (6'3)? I understand there is no stock length and Aero cut the hide by your height so I'm wondering what you taller guys got for you order. I'm...

    Teamster and dustbowl

Come down to Ballarat (Victoria) in winter Edward, I'm sure you wont find it depessingly hot here. Regular minus temps in the morning and a damp cold during the day. I spent my first 28 years in Leith, Scotland and I think the Ballarat winter is worse than the Edinburgh one in some respects.

    Christmas Jackets?

Alas, my Christmas jacket tale is one of woe. I ordered a Pre War Irvin from Aeroleather back in September which eventually arrived last week. Unfortunately the seam tapes were a different colour from the hide and it will spend Xmas winging its way back to Gala! still, it will be back in...

Aviation Leathercraft Irvin v New Aero leather models

Hello all, I'm returning to the motherland (Edinburgh, Scotland) on the 16th of this month and toying with a visit to Galashiels so I'm hoping some of you gents might be able to offer a bit of advice. Previously I have owned an Aviation Leathercraft Irvin. While it was a solid jacket it...

New Aero Irvin Pre-war - I love it!

You'll get a lot of use out of that in Norway Griff. I bought an ELC Irvin back in 2007 when we were last living in Norway, in Trondheim and I literally lived in the thing over winter. Fit looks absolutely bang-on, and those new Aero Irvins are so much better than the old ones. Hi...

    Gibson and Barnes

Hi Jon, I recently received my G & B Navy G1 and was advised by G & B to size down. I'm usually a 44 chest and went for a 42. Fits perfectly in the shoulders but maybe a little roomy at the mid drift. Its not blousy (at least on me) and not something I would worry too much about. What model are...

    Captain America Jacket

On a side note Sloan, is the 1874 in your monicker anything to do with an affection for the wrong Edinburgh football team?
