There are some obvious ones of course. Men with great style, like George Burns. (Who smoked 15 Queens a day)
Shown here with a young Ray Bradbury
But I submit Sigmund Freud as my entry.
He reputedly smoked 20 or more a day.
Quote: "My boy, smoking is one of the greatest and...
"Tip your hat to this lady son"
I customarily tip my hat to ladies when I am out walking. One afternoon while I was out for a walk a lady friend who is in her seventies pulled her car over next to me and said "I saw you tip your hat to that lady. How sweet!"
Now, every time I run into her...
The label inside the sweat band quite clearly says Style: Dalworth. Ah well, what's in a name, eh?
As for the color, the photo I posted looks, on my monitor at least, exactly correct but the auction photos on ebay were a bit confusing. The hat is a beautiful, to my eye, light fawn color.
Once I learned not to chew the butts, bad breath etc. was not a problem. ;)
Using a holder, as George Burns did and holding the cigar in your hand rather than clenching it in your teeth and having a drink, a cup of coffee or tea or just water, afterwards will alleviate the bad taste in the...
Yes ;)
Seriously: my Montechristi did suffer sweat stains a little but I considered it acceptable. After all, I wore it almost daily in Hawaii for ten years. Mine was an Optimo roll up and had a cloth sweat band. I used a terry cloth dampened with a little water and Woolite to clean the...
My comment was intended to be a cute way of saying that they are appropriate for hot, humid climates. IMO, a panama hat is perfect with a linen suit. Good analogy.
My wife's ex-husband (Before she divorced him and married me) once said "Only dweebs wear hats". He being six inches taller and a hundred pounds heavier than I, he's lucky he didn't say it in my presence.
They're made in Ecuador ya know. The Panama is a hat for the tropics. My comment was to indicate that they are perhaps not suitable for the very hot, dry desert. A Montechristi or Cuenca would be perfect for hot, humid weather but they are not "Rain hats".
Observe how panama hats look in...
Seasonal?
I always thought it was, more or less at least, seasonal: lighter colors for spring and summer(Or straw if it is really warm), darker for fall and winter.
I'm very pleased with the color as well. It was hard to tell in the auction photos. Some of them looked like it might be silver belly.
I'm confused about the models though. This one has a tag in it that says Style: "Dalworth". What is different about a San Antonio?
I had a Montechristi Fino-Fino Optimo that I wore almost every day for ten years in Hawaii. I took it to Las Vegas and wore it there for a few days and it dried out to the point that the straw in the brim cracked and eventually split. Ultimately, it got soaked with salt water while crossing...
I've heard that from other wine snobs. Personally, I find a six dollar bottle of red compliments my Punch double corona quite nicely ;)
Aloha e' komo mai
Resistol "Dalworth"
Does this qualify me for the Guild?
I'm keeping the Cattleman's crease but I snapped the brim. The hat is very light and cool; perfect for the so-called summer in the Pacific Northwest.
The Eleven Dollar Resistol
My first ebay hat.
The label says "Style: Dalworth, Color: Canyon, Size 7 1/8, Price 20.00" It came in what appears to be the original box and looks like it may have never been worn.
What do you think?
Well tonyb, I'm new at this and I'm not familiar with the terminology. This is my first really good felt hat. On closer examination, there does seem to be a smooth leather tape on the inside of the fold. I don't want to handle it or fold it down too much because it seems rather fragile and I...
