majormajor, as a yer actual, proper mod from back in the day, you say that jeans weren't cuffed? As a lame, poseur-ish 2nd generation mod from the end of the 70s, it was my understanding (gleaned from such sacred texts as the inside of the Quadrophenia double album) that 501s were given a little...
My point is that what you recognize are things from the extremely limited pool of vintage leather jacket designs. There are no innovators here - how could there be? The "voice" is always going to be borrowed from some other designer in quite another time and place. There's no point in debating...
Saw the LVC donkey jacket in the London shop. I let out a sort of involuntary bark of mirth/shock when I saw the price because yes, I remember bin men and coal men wearing them, and miners (when there were mines), and I used to wear them myself when you could buy them used for 50p. I can't help...
The basic idea of this jacket isn't exactly new, even as a modern repro. LVC have been doing their Menlo for a few years now. The Japanese makers - eg Bootleggers' Reunion - have been exploring early 20th Century designs for, again, a few years. When Himel brought out the Heron, wasn't it partly...
Craig, did you try on the Thunder Bay? How does it fit - bulk, weight, etc? It's a great looking jacket. I think there's a picture of someone wearing a similar one in Johnny Stuart's 'Rockers!' book, which I can't get my hands on to verify, unfortunately...
Fantastic work, Sloan/Craig! Great feature on Ken in the Scotsman as well. Suzi Quatro's leathers? Incredible...
I think the Mulligan is the jacket I've been waiting for, but then there's the Cropduster, the Hudson, the Dustbowl... Aero have really hit it.
If they're heading in this direction - http://www.aeroleatherclothing.com/p...il.php?id=1501 - I'll be thrilled. This one (and the Alexander Top Notch - I know, I know: :pop2:) look like the most interesting things from UK makers at the moment. Now then, how about a long, buttoned Bootlegger...
I just re-waxed my International a couple of days ago after five years of wearing it in all weathers (when we say 'all weathers' in the Southwest of England, we mean 'all the many varieties of rain') and I suppose it needed it - hard to tell, really. It's revived the rather tatty look of the...
Love the Prince Charles (sorry, playing catch-up here). That design would look marvellous, it seems to me, with some sort of d-pocket arrangement or at least a small patch pocket where the zip is... Can't wait to see the new designs!
If Lewis Leathers is still making the Roadmaster to the same specs as they used to, it will be a beast of a jacket. I've worn a couple of ex-police Roadmasters and they were very, very solid (you can find second hand ones quite easily on the 'bay and elsewhere - might be a cheap-ish option)...
