First of all, welcome to the Lounge. Take a minute and introduce yourself on the New Members thread. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/new-member-to-the-hat-forum.87263/
Looks like a nice hat in good condition from the pics. It’s not uncommon for hats to have boxes that don’t match...
Welcome to the Lounge. Nice looking hat. I don’t own an Akubra (yet - we always preface with “yet”), but I have seen other comments that they run a tad small and break in well with wear. I hope that’s the case for you.
Champ Featherweight
Crown - 4 1/4” as creased
Brim - 2 3/16”
1960’s, I believe.
This hat arrived in mint condition. I don’t think it was factory creased, but it just kind of creased itself as shown.
I don’t know if the feather is original or not, but I assume that it is. It just makes sense.
This just arrived today in like-new condition from the bay. Based on previous entries in this thread, it must be about five years old, based on the dimensions. It is a substantial hat, with a 5 5/8” crown and brim width of 2 7/8” on the sides (2 3/4” front & back).
Thanks, gentlemen. It is a bit stiffer than I expected, but the brim is malleable. After a couple of hours out of the box, it looks much better. I may work it with a little steam before wearing. We are really past official straw season here, but I might get a warm afternoon…
I finally acquired a real vintage Strat to go with my modern Strat and my not-really-Strats. While this one may not qualify as a grail hat, it checks a few boxes for me.
2 1/2” brim
5 1/4” crown (open)
The color is a blue steel kind of grey; the pictures don’t really show how much blue is...
