Yes I agree about the marketing side. Mil spec? At the end of the day the new ones are cowhide and fake fur collars yet Cockpit are goat and real fur collars and no seam so I take the Mil spec with a pinch of salt.

I think that Excelled and Pharr had a simultaneous contract but Pharr finished in 2004 and it's Excelled only now. I also have a Pharr. Lovely jacket with a lovely collar but the leather quality is far better on the Excelled.

Hi Mike
I have several and love them. Like you said they are very comfortable and well made. All have the Dscp label. Mine range from 1999 to 2008. They are not goat but cowhide.

Forgot to say the civilian version of the Cockpit A2 is superb as the leather is of fabulous quality. It's all down to the Berry agreement which stipulates USA leather to be used on Dod jackets so superior imported leather is a no no. As I said before apart from the labels and the velcro patches...
The issue Cockpit is 2007 issue. Well made no problem with the design or manufacturing but the leather is very poor with tendency to crack it has like a plastic type of sheen which if cracks off looks a mess . As far as I know Cockpit never had a contract for a G1 . Both Excelled and Pharr had...
Same as mine just says Cockpit. Will have to figure out how to put pics on here! Ha ha. As I said Cockpit leather is poor on these. Excelled are very nice but no longer Dscp different label but Dla

Yes there are Cockpit A2 with the DSCP labels on I have one. It's exactly the same as the 21st century civilian version except it has the velcro patches on plus the military labels. Most of all the leather is much poorer quality then the civilian version. No longer current issue Excelled have...
I am a 38 and 40 is a perfect fit so go up a size they run small 40 will be too small. 42 should be fine Hope that helps

So basically i gather that the G1 is no longer worn for flight but only for ground duties? I wonder why they are issued then? Will not the CWU 45/36 fill that niche?
Thanks for that . It makes perfect sense what you stated. So I gather the P3 and the P8 guys were ok to wear them as they had no chutes to wear?
Cheers

On a slightly different angle is the current issue G1 (ie Excelled) actually worn when flying? I presume the P3 and P8 crews can use it as can the C130 USCG but never seen the fast jet boys and girls wearing them anymore. Nomex seem to be the norm. So only for ground use only??? thanks
Peter
Wow what an interesting thread this turned out to be. Thanks for the very informative answers. Now we established that USW supply the CG I will get one of their G1s. Best to do it when I am stateside saves postage and custom duties. Also need to figure a size to see if they run small or large...
Thanks will be interesting to see what they say. Like I said I never doubt the quality of the jackets just the advertising claims. I like to get one but I like issue items hence the question.
Cheers

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I suppose we will not know unless someone who is in the USCG is on this forum. The US Wings jackets by the sound of it are top notch and well made but their claims to being issued are a bit liberal with the truth to say the least. Yes that is what i...
Just out of interest I still am struggling to find out if the US Wings USCG Signature series is THE official G1 of the USCG as US Wings claim or is it just purchased by individual USCG units as a private purchase? I thought they got their G1s from the same place in Florida as do the USN and the...
This is turning into a very interesting thread. Thanks all to the contributions. I am no expert but as far as i know late 70s early 80s seen the demise of goat to be replaced by cow.
I dont think the Pharr is current issue as the last ones i have seen are 2004. The Excelled is still here both...
I have several Excelled G1s DSCP ones all in 40" and fit perfect. Dated 1999, 2001 and 2008. Also have a 2004 Pharr. Quality i cant fault. Better then the Pharr which is nice but not as nice as the Excelled.
Re phoning US Wings i am UK based so not that easy but am Stateside in the summer so...
Yes Signature series. They claim they are the only suppliers to the USCG . I thought that all G1s come through the same system from Pensacola? Or are these private purchases by local USCG stations.
Cheers!. I have an Excelled A2 also. That is a 38"" as the 40" is too large but in the G1 the 40" is spot on and the 38" too small. Weird. So would you go for a 40" in the US Wings?
