I submit Black Ray Ban Shooters, Maui Jims, and Costas. Always loved the shooters, but they make me look like Joe Biden. The Maui Jims work to block the sun and UV rays great, but this pair fits real close, and they can be hot and fog up. The Costas have been my favorite for a long time. they...
Howdy Akubra lovers.....I picked up a really clean Akubra Stockman a while back, and unfortunately I didnt notice it was a size 58 and I wear a 59. I really hate the thought of Stretching and molesting this basically new condition hat just to get it to fit. If anyone might have a 59 Akubra hat...
Out here in deep East Texas there are lots of baseball caps, trucker caps, and this time of year lots of straw hats. There are a few brimmed felt wearers, but most are older gentleman. Since Im retired I need something to do, so my new job is to try and add a different flair to the area. I get...
Added a bit of color today... Blue Stetson Sovereign. Got a couple wavy spots in the brim to smooth out, and think Im going to have to change out the ribbon for some grosgrain. This year Ive strayed away from black , grey, and silver hats a bit. Found some interesting browns, blues, and some...
A while back I picked up a nice used Akubra Stockman, But its a hair tight ( its a 58 and my other akubras are all 59's). It also feels a bit short and bottoms out on the point on my noggin . Im debating doing a little work including seeing if I can do something about reshaping a bit taller. I...
regarding the sweatband..Just do like I do ... never take your hat off! lol. In all seriousness, Ive salvaged a couple ripped sweatbands by folding the sweat out and gluing a strip of thin linen or really really thin leather on the back ( veg tan snake, goat, lizard, or calf). I use a contact...
I have no need to buy a "crushable" hat... I just buy Pre-Crushed hats on ebay lol. I DO have apackable Pendleton wool hat that is my nasty weather hat..... like it a lot but its just too hot for summertime use here
I love caps too, but living here in Texas, were too warm for a wool cap about 8 months of the year... Humm wonder if anyone makes one in a decent equadorian straw?
In a perfect world with no limit to money, Id be looking for mint vintage hats... as it is some of my favorites are not so gently used beaters with warts and character.... always amazed me how well decent fur can clean up
being a leatherworker I have the fix.... two big bags of really thin lizard skins. cut and glued a bridge piece across the backside of the sweat. Got a bit of Pecards worked in and letting it sit for a while. After the glue has time to set Ill gently tap the surface down flat. will be perfectly...
Fun little Towncraft came in today ( Maybe a Lee made?). Really nice soft fur felt. Snaps up and down nicely. Ribbon binding on edge. Cleaned up pretty quick... just a couple little character stains on the ribbon but not enough to keep it at home!
AKUBRA METROPOLITAN.....I got the mystery hat in today... straight from someones closet in Austrailia! Its an Akubra Metropolitan. Have been unable to find anything about this model but maybe someone can add to this... Its a 2" brim and 4 3/4" tall crown. Has a cool little triple stitched brim...
By the way Ill throw this out here... Theres a nice looking 59cm Campdraft in Bluegrass on ebay right now. Also a light Grey Bogart in 55cm (Id never seen a Bogart in a light color like that... only one Ive got is black)
I cant really do straws all the time, so during our April thru September "straw" season, I do tend to pull out some lighter felts. I DID just pick up a nice soft Paja Toquilla for the summer... will have to see what sweat does to it lol
Will do just that! My experience with Akubras agrees that they tend to want to stay as they were lol. Ive trimmed several brims down on mine, but Ive been fortunate that I actually like their factory creases. Ive always liked a more modest brim size, but being here in Texas, there ARE times a...
