RJR--you may be right. My brother in Houston bought a Shudde Bros. branded '50s Stetson 5X on eBay, took it to Shudde Brothers for some work, and Neil Shudde recognized his initials on the hat from a refurb he did in 2001.
bluesmandan--there are a lot of folks around these parts that advise keeping steam away from leather sweatbands. It looks like you may have proved their point. That looks like a really nice hat, although it's not an Open Road. Open Roads came with a bound brim and a thin grosgrain ribbon, sewn...
I've found the naphtha or Coleman fuel bath doesn't remove odors, although it probably kills bacteria that may be a contributing factor. I use a diluted white vinegar solution on the sweatband where the musty smell sometimes seems to be the strongest, but that doesn't get rid of the odors...
This thread is making me dizzy with dazzle! Hard to keep up if you aren't paying attention, and I've had a difficult time doing that lately.
A two hat day.
Akubra Campdraft
Dobbs Hanover Square (a slight cold underneath)
tommyK--I've seen that one, too, and watched the price drop as the hat gets re-listed over and over. I think that some new sellers see hats listed by a couple of those sellers that consistently post hats at exorbitant prices (I won't mention their eBay names) and think they can get into the game...
It must be that fine Egyptian cotton....

Dale, Harv, thanks guys.
Dale, I recently hired a guy to work for me. I didn't know until after the first day on the job that he was both into hats and that he had been a working cowboy on ranches in the intermountain West after he finished high school and before going into his current...
Thanks to everyone who commented on the Playboy yesterday.
Chamuco--I would say the Playboy color could be desribed as tawny. I have always thought that it was an almond color.
Nice hats today everyone.
Stetson 3X Open Road
hRm--the dark moss Black Sheep is spectacular. Wow! I'm starting to think I need something green...
Roger-- what a nice OR. Take that baby out of the box and give it some air!
T Jones--I don't envy your weather, but I envy your hat. Nice Nutria.
New Jack--that is awesome. I love the way you...
javadave61--welcome to the Lounge. Everything you need to know about hats is here, and the information is growing.
I use a simple formula to determine how many hats to own. If the number of hats I own can be represented by n, then the number of hats I should own is represented by the equation...
Perry, Alan, Che--thanks for showing up with and showing off the Playboys. One of my favorite styles, whether vintage or custom.
It looks like the Akubras have come out in full force to fend off the snow. Looking good Matt, Richard, Sam and Harv.
Panadora-- a nice looking jazz hat. What is...
T Rick--there is a thread that was started to discuss that very hat:

I posted pics of a new-to-me Stetson No. 1 quality yesterday. Alan suggested I also post here, since this looks to be a ca. 1930s hat. The sweatband stitching is fragile so I'm only able to see a lot stamp, which reads "LOT 70--". It was in poor shape and I was able to clean it up a bit, but it...
