Thank you very much. I've previously read your useful posts, but not memorized them.
My best guess so far is that this coat would be a nearly best match for me, from a lounge member, but I don't know whether it's still available...
Can anyone make sense of these Navy-contract sizes?
My understanding is that someone with a 42in chest should order a size 42.
I saw a peacoat's 44S label with the S measurements reported as:
23in chest
32in length
19in shoulders
25in sleeve
That does not seem short but it does seem...
Thank you very much. It looks like a real bi-swing. That tells me that ATF sold real bi-swings when they made yours. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, ATF has changed their jackets a lot, so I don't know whether I would get a bi-swing if I were to order one today.
I saw pictures of a Mil-Tec...
That was a fairly common feature (or set of features) at least on some kinds of sporting jackets or coats.
Where can I get those sewing patterns?
Thank you.
Thank you for the extra tidbit. About an inch is maybe only about half the 1.5-2in that the ATF website promised. It seems like the armhole area must shrink, since the zipper doesn't shrink.
Does your jacket have a real bi-swing with the 3 seams like in the photograph above?
On the ATF...
PS: It's surprising how much basic information is lacking about these repros after all these years. I would have expected that someone would have made a table of model, make, year, and feature.
I was looking for a cotton windbreaker in a general "golf jacket" style but decided to risk $20 because this jacket vaguely resembled an A-2 aviator jacket.
The $20 jacket is the somewhat A-2-syle which is uninsulated which is the "light" jacket. The webpage confusingly combined two completely...
IMPORTANT
This is a real WWII vintage jacket's bi-swing, with 3 distinct seams:
I saw and felt in person a Mil-Tec "repro" with 100%-polyester lining that has no cloth between #2 and #3 and with what amounts to the #3 seam permanently attached to the #2 seam, as if it were a false bi-swing...
EDIT: Sorry, I missed that you specified "fedora" in the post title. Still, some of the points below remain relevant.
Choices, including some already mentioned, for at least almost-all criteria:
Panama hat
Cowboy hat
Australian outback hat
Fishing hat (often with all-around-band, fabric...
