No worries Jared. I certainly don't presume to know more than you folks who collect vintage hats in earnest, however, this brim edge treatment did tweak my curiosity. Plus, I ran out of popcorn.
Are you just doing the one hat? If so, why not just use your steam iron and a damp pressing cloth on a hard surface such as marble or a wood hat board? Everyone here is trying to help you and have already offered good suggestions about brim pressing machinery.
Pardon me for violating the Ebay active listing etiquette. I could be wrong, but I believe this is the hat in question. Of recent manufacture in a wool blend, the Sevilla hat by Fernandez and Roche. It appears that it is neither a curled brim nor a conventional bound brim, but rather a sort of...
The elusive Maillard Straw Hat Brim Press now has a new home in the Phoenix Hat Company workshop. I believe these were designed just to flatten brims on boater/skimmer type straw hats, but, with the use of pressing cloths to eliminate segment marks, I don't plan to limit it's use to straws. It's...
The elusive electric Maillard Straw Hat Brim Press now has a new home in the Phoenix Hat Company workshop. I believe these were designed just to flatten brims on boater/skimmer type straw hats, but, with the use of pressing cloths to eliminate segment marks, I don't plan to limit it's use to...
$15.00 difference between the gas and electric models. I guess they figured if you were well enough off to have electricity you could afford to pay more.

Coming soon to the Phoenix Hat Company workshop. A tool I do not need for a product I do not make, however, I figured I'd never get another chance in my lifetime to see one of these in person so I pulled the trigger. Pics of the real deal to follow.
The trial run of the Randal Alan 3D printed hat block is complete. To be honest, I was fully prepared for the block to fail, and even thought it might, however, the finish held up nicely and the hat body released easily from the block. I figured the block itself or at least the finish would...
The new 3D printed hat block from Randal Alan arrived just after Christmas and I finally found a minute to soak and stretch an old hat body on it to see how well it will perform. First of all, let me say that Randal was very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. I told him that I was...
Happy New Year's wishes to all my friends here on the Fedora Lounge. May you have a happy and healthy 2020 and remain steadfast in all your resolutions. My sincere thanks to each and every one of you for helping to make 2019 a wonderful year to be a "hat guy". Just please, whatever else you do...
So many possibilities with that beauty Brent. I came across a Greeley hat in the thrift store the other day and was impressed by the finish. Unfortunately, it was a size 8 so definitely not for me. It was stamped: "Made Especially For The Cranially Endowed". You gotta love a hat maker with a...
