Do you think this is a real early-50s T-shirt?

I just bought this off of ePray, supposed to be an early 50s US Navy white T-shirt. But now that I’ve gotten it I have my doubts. Looking at these pics, based on stitching, etc.- what do you think?

Where to go for simple, thin, unwaxed dress shoe laces?

Well I certainly didn’t think I would have to do a deep dive for this! I have some new pairs of shoes (brown and black) and wanted to replace the god-awful laces they came with for my standard preferred ones, the simple Kiwi dress laces seen here...

Wool and hot water- several questions!

It’s interesting because that’s exactly the experience I ended up having. I spot-wetted/cleaned many parts of the tropical worsted wool tunic I mentioned with hot water (letting it just hang dry after) and then measured parts of it, like the sleeves, and eyeballed others and the shrinkage seems...

Wool and hot water- several questions!

Hey all! I’ve been very confused about a few things here and I would appreciate if perhaps you could answer each of these questions. Thank you so much! 1. My whole life I have been told/have read that hot water shrinks clothes. But I have never ever found this to be the case. It is *DRYING*...

Trouser legs catching in shoes – part 2

I never considered socks and static. Interesting........

Trouser legs catching in shoes – part 2

Well, if you saw my last thread, you know I was dealing with this issue with different trousers and different shoes. The trousers were of a very lightweight material and we concluded I probably need a cuff. Fast forward to today. These are really heavy gabardine wool pants with a wide opening...

Why are dress chocolates so hard to find?

Well I must say I’ve found more searching on eBay than I anticipated, but they’re still in much less supply than other officer components (which is something I should’ve clarified in OP- the chocolates are harder to find than other *officer* components. Officer vs. enlisted makes sense (although...

    Trouser problem- “floating” openings

I’ll see if suspenders make a difference. From what I’m seeing I doubt it, but worth a shot!

    Trouser problem- weird curved leg/crease

They are military uniform pants most likely from the late 40s/early 50s :)

    Trouser problem- weird curved leg/crease

What on earth would cause the problem in the attached pic? I don’t experience this with other trousers. They are being worn as straight as I can get them. (And my legs are not bent or anything :).) Just bad construction?

    Trouser problem- “floating” openings

There is a phenomenon I experience with my trousers sometimes, and I feel like I have with certain pairs my whole life, which makes no sense to me: Certain pairs will do this weird thing where they will constantly get caught in my shoe openings, as if the leg openings have no weight to them...

Question about Class A tunic buttons

I need to replace some buttons on a tunic with the correct ones for Army/Army Air Corps. I talked to a collector friend of mine and, as always goes with these things, I learned a lot in a little! I found a really good deal on Etsy for buttons and due to a slight flub on the part of the seller...

Basic question- pin, ribbon, patch, and button supplier(s)?

As I’m fleshing out my collection for WWII reenactment (dress and service uniforms for dances), I’d been planning to ask on here if there are go-to sources for all the bits and bobs (pins, ribbons, patches, buttons, etc.) I’ll need for the uniforms. I’m talking strictly reproduction- no need for...

Why are dress chocolates so hard to find?

I’ve only recently begun collecting World War II dress and service uniforms but I have found, after going to several large flea markets, stores, militaria meet ups, etc. and perusing eBay and the like, that the officer chocolates are hard to encounter. Any ideas for why? My friend, a much more...

Flat front dress shirts- your help?

I think I was a bit unclear. There are many bib options these days that use a material that stays very flat and straight even when washing. If not, I’m happy to have a dry cleaner starch it. What I was trying to avoid was the traditional boiled-front style that requires the extreme level of hand...

What on Earth could've caused this brace problem?

This was really, truly bizarre. Perhaps you can help? The other night, I put on a pair of trousers I've worn many times before but almost always with a belt. Never had any length issues. This time I attached braces. One leg was noticeably longer than the other by maybe 1.5". So I thought...

    A question about high-waisted trousers

Yeah, I’m totally on this train now. I just wish I had a way to use braces with casual tops like short-sleeved knits. I just can’t think of any way. I tried them atop an A shirt with the knit on top of all that, and it was awful- too clunky and you could see the whole apparatus through the knit...

    A question about high-waisted trousers

But what I’m trying to do (or rather, the situation I’m trying to solve) is with casual T-shirts and whatnot, where again braces just don’t fit. Have a look at all the pics along the right in the attachment here. I wonder if perhaps I need a taller belt. I’ve been using those little thin whip...

    A question about high-waisted trousers

Well then I’d basically have braces against raw skin (might not be an issue, but not sure) and with many of my knit tops you actually see the braces under it. It looks off (I actually tried this yesterday with an A shirt and braces under the top and boy could you see it all. Looked ridiculous.)

    A question about high-waisted trousers

I’ve recently started getting into these but something isn’t quite working out right... I suppose the proper height for which to shoot is around the navel (right over the hip bones or perhaps a tad higher). The thing is, as I see it I have two options to keep them there- braces or a belt -and...
