Thanks! I've actually seen those two before.
Re: the first, the frustrating thing about that reference is that while it's a good introduction, it seems to lack all of the variations and permutations you see in pictures, at least in their pictorial depictions. If you look at this (to me) famous...
Oh I would certainly buy from WPG as I'm US-based. As an (related) aside, I have no clue how that guy produces and stocks everything on there. As far as I can tell, it's one man reproducing, to a fairly good quality level as far as I can surmise, 3000 different items. Crazy!
Well, it (inevitably?) happened. What began months ago as a "$30-Amazon-costume-and-maybe-$85-Levi's-somewhat-if-you-squint-correct-looking-G1-jacket" thrust has now blossomed into a full-blown...
UPDATE!
A bit of research/Googling might have produced the (quite simple) answer:
The Navy does indeed still do the khaki/khaki combo for their service uniform today. They just don't have long sleeve shirts (I believe.) So all I need do is purchase the Navy pants...
Ok, a bit unorthodox here, but hear me out!
I decided I really wanted a fairly accurate khaki summer uniform for my dance events and performances, and you all helped me a lot on this thread here:
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/who-makes-the-most-accurate-summer-cotton-uniform.100177/...
And so... it begins. Another rabbit hole amply dove into!
A few weeks ago I posted this:
https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/where-can-i-buy-a-good-enough-costume-quality-wwii-navy-or-army-officers-uniform.99770/
And sure enough, the Dickies route worked wonderfully.
And now...
I want...
Actually one last thing- I've seen these now on hats (garrison caps), collars, and lapels. Anyone know if it was the same exact pin on all three? I understand there might be minor differences based on mfr. from one photo to the next, but for a given airman, would they be acquiring the same pin...
I must publicly apologize; Peacoat reached out to me and I certainly misread his intent. As I wrote to him, one experiences so much of the sort of behavior I thought he was exhibiting on other forums I was basically feeling, "oh great, another experience like this." I totally misread it and I...
Thanks for the sarcasm toward a new person getting into the scene! But then, no scene is ever truly complete without its elitists, is it?
Interesting trivia, but doesn't help the original question for someone trying to determine sizing and proper design at all. But you did get to flaunt your...
Update- I'm nearly certain the curved/larger ones are right, as I've now seen several examples of originals for sale and they all conform to this, plus I found, on the website of the mfr. who supplies the surplus store, the smaller/sharper ones and they are indeed listed as Army Aviation...
Very simply question, I'm just new to all this stuff- going to wash my shirt, curious what people do in the service with regard to their pins- remove everything and re-attach? These days, do they do dry cleaning and can the metal just hold up?
Just have no idea how pins were handled back then...
Hey all! This past weekend I had to put together an early 40s aviator Air Corps summer uniform, and all the details were pretty easy to determine except one.
The aviator pin worn on the collar and garrison cap, the one seen here:
When I looked through pins at surplus stores, I found that...
There are plenty of surplus stores around (LA area), but in my experience putting together a complete, well-fitting WW2 uniform from such places is near-impossible (have not had close to the luck you had.) Also, since it's for dancing, ironically the authenticity often works to my disadvantage-...
Hey all! I know in the world of militaria some extreme attention can be paid to detail and authenticity. I've certainly dabbled in similar fields where accuracy was key.
This is NOT one of those searches :). For an upcoming dance, I really wanted to go WWII aviator, be it Army Air Corps or...
