Thanks, yes I'm rather chuffed with it. But don't you have a similar German number? ;)
Thanks for the tip. Yes, it has been used quite a bit. Would white vinegar work as well?
There are also a few moth holes. Any way of patching them without spending £300 for a reweave? [huh]
Sure, Just...
No, you are correct. I was a bit surprised by the weight of the sleeves, and could see some canvas through some wear in the cuffs, and assumed that was the cause.
Upon closer examination it is just in the cuffs.
The padding in the shoulders and the stiffness of the outer fabric itself...
Here's a jacket I bought on ebay uk.
It belonged to the sellers father in law.
He described it as 1950s-1960s owing to some membership cards he found in the pockets.
I think mid 1950s to 1960s it out of the question.
My guesstimate is early 1940s, but I'm looking forward to your...
Though those aren't features that were completely absent during the 1930s, and I do like the functionality of the throat latch.
I get what you mean though, on a 1960s or 1970s jacket, those details make them even more obviously so.
There is a decent possibility that he messed up the measurements. If the jacket is actually labelled a large, well, we'd have to check a calvin klein sizing chart, or assume it's mislabeled.
I think your trousers look pretty good, but you have confirmed my thoughts about the flannel on my own trousers (in my case the cheapest one available) it is a bit too soft to drape properly.

Look at those zipped buttonholes. Who would of thunk it?
This is what I love about 20s-40s vintage, when...
I like a bit of variety, I like the classic 'medium' lapel width all the way up to flamboyant large lapels. But I can't abide 'stylishly skinny' lapels. They look a bit sad and uninspired to me, and also lack the practicality of being able to fold them closed.
Alan Flusser says the ideal lapel...
Agreed. The small, useless broach sized hats I find to be a bit silly. The ones that actually serve a purpose often look good.
In the article, Phil Baker says he hates the ones with the massive brim.
I disagree, I find them quite dashing.

I have the single breasted version and I find it to be very practical and stylishly understated. I don't see why your wife wouldn't like it, unless she dislikes trench-coats in general?
There is now a resurgence of sports coats and ties worn casually, but at the moment it seems to be mainly an...
When I shifted to a more vintage/smart style I had to gradually unlearn my adolescent sense of dressing for the occasion.
A sports coat which was only for a fancy night out was 'downgraded' to a daily beater.
It's an ongoing recalibration.
It's always interesting to hear different people's...
Subtle perfection. You can do everything with this: Wear the jacket as a sportscoat, the trousers separately with a jumper or leather jacket, and as a suit it's sober enough to look relatively formal in most situations.
I once bought a cheap jacket on the highstreet which was a linen/cotton blend. I was surprised to find that it hardly wrinkled at all. It would have been perfect for a business setting in the summer were it is argued that linen looks too casual.
