What's going on with the FL site?

Running an older computer here with telephone high-speed internet. Have had no problems with the site more or less since it was bad several months back (was it last fall?). Ongoing problems for some of you might be more to do with your local service provider or your browser or something more local?

    Washing leather jackets

Former friend of mine use to wash his (extremely expensive) camelhair overcoat like that and it worked out well, but yeah, drying is the challenge. I wonder if it's a good idea for those doing this at home to wait until the warm, dry weather arrives (for those of us in the northern half of the...

US Navy & US Marine Corp Boat Cloaks, and US Army Capes

It looks like the Marine Shop is offering the USMC boat cloak again, via special order: https://marineshop.net/product/boat-cloak-male-special-order/

    Capes/Cloaks

Nurses of course often wore short capes and I have some photos of good examples which I'll post but here's some old photos. If anyone has more photos along these lines, I'd like to see them.

    Capes/Cloaks

Here's a modern re-enactor wearing a Roman paenula, the standard hooded cloak worn by Roman soldiers, and many civilians too. It was big to fit over everything and had a few loop-and-toggles on the front to partially close it.

US Navy & US Marine Corp Boat Cloaks, and US Army Capes

There's a more general thread on capes/cloaks at the link below which is probably a good place to post photos of your collection. This thread I think we should keep more focused on US military capes etc. I'm looking forward to your photos. general thread on Capes/Cloaks

US Navy & US Marine Corp Boat Cloaks, and US Army Capes

^ applause for your adventuresome spirit! fingers crossed you can achieve something wearable remember to make sure the collar points are fairly long and pointed if you have a lot of "throwaway" cloth you could just make a huge 3/4 circle, in three panels, and not bother with shaping the...

Trench Coat - the 'Ultimate' Thread!

From the short-lives TV series Constantine, Matt Smith wearing a short single-breasted Burberry trench coat, which they sold for a few years several years ago. The series was really good in my opinion, sadly cancelled after 12 episodes or thereabouts.

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I watched that film last evening and I agree with your friend that it came across like something churned out of an LLM. I was pleased to see that the bones for a traditional Wes Anderson film were there, in the coloured scenes set in Asteroid City. though they seemed cut down to a highlights...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

The other night I watched 2022's "Vesper," an excellent film about a teenage girl surviving in a post-apocalyptic world of dangers. The characters are rounded, the world-building rich, and the whole thing a good use of your time for sci-fi fans.

    Alpha Industries M65 Field Jacket

My cheap and cheerful Rothco has the inauthentic small breast pockets but yes I agree they're easy to dig into and actually hold a lot of stuff despite their small size. As for the M-16 magazine thing, these jackets have the same pockets as the WW2 jackets and the Korean War jackets from which...
