Talk me into or out of this silly jacket? (Schott sportswear leather)

SCHOTT bros made a leather safari jacket, and I kind of think it's awesome... Am I crazy? The tag says it's "schott bros sportswear" collection. What should I expect from the leather and the craftsmanship? It's tag matches the look, VERY 70s LOL. But I like it! I think it has potential.

I need a new suit, and some help…

Not since I was in my late 20’s, beautiful suit but I’m a 44/46 chest, 38 waist now, depending on the actual measurements.

Help selecting new hat - breathable and packable?

More breathable than a hemp hat, I think you’d want a vented crown. The Akubra “range” hat is from the company you enjoy and a vented crown hemp hat. I don’t have any experience with packable straw (or hemp or palm etc) but I have a packable wool felt Stetson. If you decide on a packable wool...

I need a new suit, and some help…

I’d really like to keep the suit cost to around $500.00 or there abouts, a 400 dollar tailored piece would be amazingly below budget! There was a place I went to in Chicago, Richards Fabulous Finds, where I picked up some great tweed separates to wear for my wedding. I’m just not familiar...

I need a new suit, and some help…

I’m in need of a suit for an upcoming awards party in about a month. I have no suits that fit. I’m a new dad, with a new dad-bod and my current closet isn’t cooperating. I’d like something with a high waist, high crotch, and high armscye, for ease of movement. You know how Bertie Wooster can...

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

I just recieved two "new" to me Peacoats, ones a 1970 in the unheard of large 46 size! That was great for layering but I still wanted a fitted one, and kept my eye out. I then nabbed a 1949/50 in a 44, in incredible barely worn condition! It’s stunner! Oh and about 6 weeks back I snagged a...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

I’ve just tried a bunch of ways to get some pictures, mirror selfy, timer photos, different parts of my apartment, different lighting, and it always looks like a big black coat :D I think it’s the New York Aprt walls painted in gloss eggshell white, it just washes all the coat details away...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

Hey Peacoat! I couldn't figure out how to tag a member so I'm hoping a reply will serve the same purpose! My new to me '49 coat has some loose buttons. I'm going to resew them using the RobertJeffrey.us coat button guide and I'll be putting "stay buttons" behind them to make this coat as bomb...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

My ‘49/50ish pea coat arrived and  it is in barely worn condition… no wear on the sleeve edges, the pocket edges, on the collar… nothing. No moth nips. The corduroy pockets have no wear, and no… like… sand? Grit? I love old wool surplus gear and it almost always has some bits of dirt in...

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

You could use a nice bit of marlin spike decorative cordage to hold the top together, but still have some breathing room. It looks awesome and it’s period correct for the coat.

Questions About the United States Navy Peacoat

Whelp. I went and bought another one, too. My big 1970 46r is awesome to layer over a bulky sweater but without a thick layer it lets a lot of wind inside. I know the wool is very wind resistant, and it’s definitely the large fit. I was looking for a 42/44 when I came across the 46 and bought...

Ask a question, get an answer

Do they have taller crowns than other brands? That’s the impetus for going custom. I have either a tall dome or lowish set ears, but hats seem to sit “on top of” my head rather than “over” my head.

Ask a question, get an answer

Oh! I didn’t mean I’m looking specifically for an open crown, I just meant that most crown heights are measured after the bash is put in, but they often start with the same open crown height. So I’m looking for a hat with a taller height as measured pre-bash to take the crease dimensions (which...

US Navy & US Marine Corp Boat Cloaks, and US Army Capes

Hello All, I have several Yugoslavian alpine cloaks, a bunch of different shelter halves that convert to cloaks, a French policeman’s cloak, and a Soviet Officers rain cloak. This looks like the only active cloak thread on FL and if there’s an interest here, I can post them? Or if...

Ask a question, get an answer

I have a question! What brand or style of fur felt hats have larger volume crowns? I have, I’m not sure, either low set ears? Maybe a tall crowned skull shape? But the top of my head seems slightly further from my ears than the average head shape :D Most baseball caps sit too...
