No Problem, when I use the denatured alcohol or the Naptha doing a full soaking I put the felt inside a large container that I can use a screw on lid, it is only a problem pouring or opening up the container.
Oh ok, the last time that I used that stuff I gave the hat body a bath and boy did I get a contact buzz just breathing the fumes. I guess that I need to start having a little mixer before I work with the stuff?
All of the hats look new, looks like some really nice work and hard to do, using Naptha to clean and the denatured alcohol, you have to have good ventilation. the results are outstanding.
I put some ads on Ebay yesterday with my hats. I made a few things with leather that go with Western Style Hats. If you are interested take a look.
I have reshaped a couple of my hats also.

Thank you for the information, I never thought to use the search button, I have been just a little busy all day, getting two hats ready for photos, one to post on Ebay, the other, my grey fedora, the person that bought it wanted it to be bashed into a Indiana Jones Raiders Hat. I just finished...
Well I am in need of some information and a bit of help, I think this is the right place to ask. I was contacted by someone that wants a Smooth Criminal Hat. That is something new for me, from my web search the hat looks like a fedora with a wide brim, it has a smooth textured look with soft...
How much difference in length and width is there between a regular oval and a long oval 60cm block? I am guessing that there is maybe a 1/4" more in length and 1/4" less in width. I could wrong with the guess?
Do you use a long oval when you make a hat for yourself or do you use a hat stretcher for a better fit? I wear the same hat size as you and after making a hat for myself I find that if I push in on the sides just a little the hat fits better.
Hello Fedora Fans,
I posted 5 of my hats on Ebay on Friday 14th. and over the weekend I sold one of my hats. The brown hat with the worn look sold first which surprised my, I thought that my Granite Gray Fedora would be the first to sell. There a number of watchers right now, some have...
I am guessing that is the type of information you're looking for? Let me know if you need some more help, I have a collection of information, I just have to do a little digging to find it, and if I discover that I am missing something I work the web to find what I am looking for.
I don't know if this is what you are looking for but it is something that I have in my collection of hat making information, let me know if this is what you are looking for. I think that what you are wanting is a combination of the #51 and #52 blocks, basically a #51 with straight sides, no taper.
I have been looking at hats and hat blocks for the past half hour trying to figure out the difference between the hat block style 52 and looking at the rusults of a hat blocked on a #52 block and from what I Have noticed, it looks like they may have taken a #52 and sanded down the top edges of...
I happen to think that you are very talented, you just don't give yourself enough credit, the doggedness is your nature and that is the driving force behind your want and need to learn hat making. You have to have that kind of drive to learn hat making on your own and you stick with a problem...
Hang onto that hat stretcher, you may want to put her initials on it, she will be back for another hat for sure. You're most likely the only person that would go the distance to make a hat that actually fit her. Outstanding work, proves that you will go the distance to make your customers happy.
That would come in handy to use when pouncing the crown, I would have to have it on slow speed using 800 or 1000 grit. What size is the center pin? Someone that makes a lot of hats could use that turntable.
Hi Brent,
This is my new version of my rounding jack, it looks close to the first rounding jack and the changes that I have made are small. I made changes to the clamping area of this rounding jack and the brass sheet backing extends further down. Check my previous post and compare the photos...
I have made some changes to my rounding jack and I think for the better. Here are a few photos of the rounding jack now. The utility blade is clamped between two pieces of wood by two brass thumb screws, with the clamp pushed against the base the blade is at the 1 9/16" mark, of course that...
I am glad that the rabbit felt hasn't risen very much, I use mainly rabbit and I have a nice little collection of rabbit fur felt hat blanks and 3 beaver. I am building up my collection of items needed for hat making, I have three hat blocks, all 6" tall, 58,59,and 60cm, now I can use my vintage...
Crazy? There must be a better word to describe the cost for one felt hat body blank. What is the price for a hat made of 4X beaver felt? I don't think to many beaver hats are going to be sold with the price of a single beaver felt hat body being as high as it is. Just starting out making hats...
