Classic Civilian flight jacket by LL Bean. This design is well liked for combining some of the best features of the civilian flight jackets of the 40s and 50s (though this is newer).
No fabric content label, but according to my research this has an outer shell of goatskin, wool cuffs and...
Is there a way to tell if a button is bakelite or regular plastic? You are right though, the collar is pre-disco for sure, and the label is also kind of old world. Tough one! I suspect a late 40s early 50s garment would also have a bigger collar-which makes me lean late 50s early 60s when things...
Thanks for the replies. I think there is a distinct difference in the feel of a lot of pre sixties and post 70s leather outerwear, the former being more 'rugged outdoorsman' and the latter more 'rakish city boi' this jacket is sort of in between, he he. Some of the features aren't too...
Hey guys, picked up this rather charming jacket (possibly to sell). I am pretty good at dating vintage items, but leather isn't my forte. The general vibe is 60s hippie. But the collar isn't big a la 70s, and the buttons and label look 50s, in that 'Californian sportswear' kind of way. Is early...
Hey guys, I have an auction for a German short 1940s leather jacket on Ebay-a beautiful jacket even if not in perfect condition. The patina is very striking. Have a look!

This is valuable information for vintage jacket fans, as even if their jacket zip puller isn't broken it is nice to have a back up option.
So, here is what I made.
In case anyone is interested, the ingredients are: one 7mm jump ring to attach to the zip. A 6x4mm link chain and a 9mm jump ring...
Nice! I am making an 'O' ring chain puller, myself. Used a bunch of jeweller's tools, jump rings and chains. Getting the right sizes took some trial and error, as it is hard to visualize the dimensions.
But finding the right stuff begins with knowing what terms to search for-for example I did...
Nice! Going through a similar process myself and learning to be an amateur jeweller after the puller on my jacket broke! Do you have links to the hardware you used? thanks!
I saw those! I was concerned the part of the tab that connects to the chain looks like it isn't properly closed though? Anyway, that is a good option. The Waldes one is even better because it comes with an open link. I hope they are available somewhere.
The problem:
It originally had a chain and 'diamond' type puller
Possibly the solution?
Or can you recommend something nicer in the style of the 30s-50s ball and chain/ball and diamond pullers?
