Have a new project hat on the way. A big ol Black 4x Resistol Cowboy hat. Game plan is to use it to test my new Jiffy Steamer and brim curling tool. Going to shorten the brim up a bit by curling it. Im thinkng a full 1/2" curl although I may test a 3/8" to start with. If it works well, I have...
Woke up with rain and temps about 15 degrees warmer than last night. Going to be a good day to stay inside after I do my morning Coffee run. Thought I pull one of the Stetson James Dean's off the wall today
42 degrees and feels like fall.. Lets pick an Autumn hat for the morning. To make it fun lets do before and after pictures
My favorite little lightweight Orange Stetson with green ribbon and edge binding. Its come a long way since it arrived all crunched up in the ebay box with paint spots and...
I figure since I havent been on a horse in years, and tend to stay in the shade, Im more concerned on having a brim that doesnt bump into the seatback every time I move. Back when I was outside all the time I had wide brims. I had one nice American Maxi Felt that I wore for 20 yrs or so. If I...
We did have an insanely bright Beaver Moon here in East Texas this morning! Id love to share my pure Beaver, but unfortunately my wall and my budget havent acquired a pure beaver hat yet. Thought about throwing up a nice old 5x beaver here , but hey... how about a pure 100% Pure Australian...
The tool I bought has both 3/8 and 1/2 slots. Some of the hats I'm thinking about should look good with the 3/8"... But Im thinking some of the BIG ones will benefit from the bigger 1/2" . Additionally I finally broke down and actually bought a Jiffy Hat Steamer ( Im getting tired of accidently...
The tool I have coming has both 3/8 and 1/2" curls. Depending on the original brim size, Im thinking The curl can take the place if trimming the hat narrower ( Im not real big on oversized brims). A nice roll should effectively reduce the brim acerage lol
I thought about things for a few minutes and decided to wear the old Lawson out today instead ( Lightning Ridge has already been out once this month lol)
Love the curl! I have a tool on the way and a couple old hats cowering in the corner ( "Hes going to do WHAT to us?!")
Something like this what Im hoping to achieve
Im looking for a new project. Has anyone ever put a pencil curl on a larger brim Akubra? Im thinking a big pencil curl Akubra would be cool. Something like a raw edge Riverena should be doable, but Im unsure whether a bound edge would be problematic...
Something like this is what Im thinking...
Thats what happens when youre forced into an early retirement.... I have resurected a lot of old hobbies to keep busy ( The Dog, The Gym, The Banjo, The Mandolin, Socializing at the Coffee shop, Leatherwork, Woodwork, Hats, Gun repair, Smoking pipes, home repair, BBQ, Cocktails on the Patio...
By the way... for the ground off screw posts, I always add a spot of epoxy when I screw it together.... 5 min epoxy is fine.... Ive had a little trouble getting threadlocker to hold
In my leatherwork Ive used lots of those fake coin conchos with the Chicago Screw Post fasteners. Unless theyre going on a really thick leather, I almost always have to grind off the post and screw to make them fit. Its a pain but still way easier than the old way of doming out real coins and...
Mines a smooth white liner and regular ribbon bow, Also mines a raw edge instead of bound edge ( wish mine had it) .. This one looks basically new so I suspect is a fairy recent hat
I have the same Imperial Ultimate felt... super feeling hat. Ive always been of the opinion that in the last...
Chilly low 40s here this morning... time for something warm on the head. How about a black Stetson Imperial Dexter. Its a Key Club line hat with the Ultimate finish... medium weight felt thats dense, smooth, and soft.
