I’ve heard Hein Gericke’s quality has deteriorated a lot- can anyone wager a guess when / where this would have been made?

Please show the Labels on the inside, then I can tell you more. There should be a Tag stating the exact Date of manufacturing, sometimes inside one of the inner pockets.

But HG usually was decent quality, especially pre 2000.

I wouldn’t worry. Just look at the pictures. It looks real solid.

Weird "R.B.C." half-belt in CXL looking leather coming my way from JP. Totally not an Aero copy.

Any idea what type of leather this could be? Looks like a calf skin to me, but don’t know why they wouldn’t specify on the tag

Okay that is one of the newer tags/labels.
You can be pretty sure its calfskin or cowhide, non expensive real motorcycle jackets are never made out of horsehide and sheepskin/goat are not suitable. Every normal HG I own is made out of cowskin.

Not worth 250 Dollars in my opinion, I never paid over 120 Euros for a HG, not even the much nicer "Classics" models. The model is nothing too special, should be able to find Something Like this for much less.

CXL (if I'm not mistaken) half-belt by "R.B.C" and a pair of CW Vanson pants came in.
Adding a shot of the CXL jacket next to my CXL Aero (brown). I guess it's cordovan then.

I purchased a wool jacket from Spier and Mackay in Ontario last week. I was not charged any duties but the purchase was within the De Minimis limit and there is a chance it might have slipped through. It was shipped by UPS. Sorry I can't be of more help.
