I didn't think about it being Whippet Wednesday today. Here's my Franken-Whippet. It's an Akubra that I put together with materials from a wool Stetson Whippet.

The donor hat. A wool Stetson Whippet that I stripped down for its material:

The Akubra that I put together with all the material I took from the wool Stetson. I blocked this down from a 7 1/2 to a 7 1/4.

Tall straight crown with a Center Dent, and the placement of the wind cord on the bow itself for a little different looking feature. I got the idea from a picture that a Lounger recently posted on another page:

Also patched up this hole that was in the hat. Can't even tell it was ever there:

The material I salvaged from the wool Stetson, including the brim binding. Pictured now in the Akubra:

That's pretty cool. I wish I had those skills.

Thank you, Don! Much appreciated! Acquiring the skills is easy. Acquiring the patience isn't so easy. Once you master the patience, you master the skills.

That hat has new life now!
Great work on the wind cord. It adds a really unique look to your hat, that type trolley could become your “signature “ on your work.
It looks fantastic on you!
Once again great job!
Congratulations on the upcoming 50my wife and I will celebrate 43 this coming June.

Some of the ice is starting to melt in the afternoon sunshine but it’s still only 26 degrees so things are just getting slipperier outside. Stay safe friends!

Knox Superfine Homburg in Midnight Blue today. Homburgs have very much grown on me these last few months.

Homburgs have a way of doing that, Nathan. Especially when they're as good as that Knox midnight blue, and as you wear it so well.

Watch out! You'll be getting into Bowlers next

Thank you Rusty! I really like the placement of the wind cord on the bow like that. I believe I'll be doing it the same way on more hats. I agree. It's a unique look.

Thank you for the 50th congrats! 43 years is a good long time, too. Congrats to you and your lady as well. My lady and I met when we were 16 and dated all through High School, and a year after we graduated we got married, 2/14/1974.

Thanks Steve! At one time I frowned upon homburgs (on me, not as a general rule), so you might be right and I might come around to wearing bowlers.

Of course, that would be just another reason to wish I had a more space-conscious hobby like vintage socks or something.
