Just got my $86 Whippet today. The box didn't survive the shipping(Although the seller packed it like it was precious and made out a gold which I am thankful for) but the hat is magnificent. Not bad for my first Whippet.
We are going to go far!

We both have the same size head and it's great when you can score a nice hat at a reasonable price .
I am awiting a similar brown wide brim fedora in the mail any day now and I'll be sure to post it.

Mauve Taupe MGL
The Borsalino 'Marque Grand Luxe' (MGL) that I won on 2/10, discussed in post #21702 on 2/11, arrived today. Asking for some opinions and help trying to figure out exactly what I have here.

Amiata Driasti - closest I can find is that the Amiata might be an Italian word for asbestos, and one of the colors for asbestos is lavender (though most asbestos is white); Driasti is maybe a word for drastic, or daring. Daringly Lavender? I know there are some Italians out there, help me if you can. Back at the time this hat would have been made Asbestos was still a 'cool' thing with no connection to cancer.
I'm thinking this felt is a mauve color; maybe mauve taupe. (NO, I am not a subject matter expert on the difference between mauve and taupe!!). Here are a couple of pics that show the darker felt near the ribbon:
I think this hat originally had a much wider ribbon, and that is the reason for the dark band around the ribbon. Here is some evidence - needle holes and pimples here and there in that darker band of felt:
Here is a comparison to light browns, a tan, a grey-brown, and a cinnamon brown:
Comp to the grey-brown, first with incandescent light added and second with just skylight (cloudy day) - trying to show that the MGL (on top) has a reddish tint:
Any thoughts on the color? I'm thinking that the correct shade of mauve or lavender ribbon, wider ribbon of course, would really make this hat pop. I'm also thinking it will be on its way to Optimo in the very near future, hoping they will work with me on picking a ribbon color / width.
