Ohh all the drinks sound wonderful my two staples are Manhattans with Makers and Sidecars. If ya want to change a Sidecar up with a bit more kick ask for a In Between the Sheets it's a Sidecar with some rum added to it, simply wonderful!

Bet you never heard of this one...

One of my favourites is one that was popular with RAF types in the '30s and into the wartime years. It's the "Suffering ba***rd". (Hint: a couple of them will turn you into one.) You start with a shot of gin, add a shot of brandy, a dash of Angostura Bitters and a dash of lime juice. Fill it the rest of the way with ginger beer and top with a lemon or orange slice. Getting anyone to make one usually requires walking them through it, as it's a rarely heard of drink these days. It's quite good, though...

Vanilla Jack

It's in the current issue of Classic Style. On page 25. I think I'm going to have to try this one out. Just have to pick up some Tuaca. I think I'll try it with some Blenhiem Ginger Ale which has a slite bite to it.

Hubby and I like Key Lime Martinis, and Chocolate Martinis. But my favorite, which I'm not sure I can post the name of in a family forum, is a shot of vodka, enough pineapple and orange juice to fill a highball or an old fashioned glass that has some ice in it, and then add a splash of Amaretto on the top.

I taught the bartender at the Cicada how to make a White Lady on Sunday.

I felt very accomplished after that. Well that and tipsy.
I did that myself! My mission over the last few days, now that the weather has turned warm and White Ladies are sounding lovely and refreshing, has been to spread the joy of this particular classic. Saturday night it was the bar at the Swissotel in Sydney, Tuesday lunch it was the cafe at work. With very commendable results...

My mixed drink isn't.

[QUOTE=ohairas Esp. since being on Weight Watchers I watch the drinks.. but just found a sugar free sweet and sour mix that is great!

The wife and I also attend Weight Watchers (and with some decent success, may I add).:) :eusa_clap
She (Mrs.Ashe) does not use any alcohol because of a physical aversion.
I, however do.

I like to have a drink while listening to music just prior to bed.
I factor in the point allotment (Eight points) for three ounces of single malt. A dab of bottled water to release the friendly Jujus. No ice. No soda. No parasols.

Just Talisker or Lagavulin. Caol Ola IF it is available. It usually is not.
If there is a sale on Mccallan's 18 I jump on it and put a bottle or two aside.

Asher Ashe, the Natural Mink Tonkinese in-house music and cultural editor eschews booze, except for a sniff and a sneeze.lol

I'm mostly a gin drinker. Well, gin and whisky drinker. Although I do like my rum...um, maybe just take the "gin" out of that first sentence and we'll call it good.

My big three gin drinks are the dirty martini, gimlet (Terry Lennox style, with a ratio of 1:1), and the classic G&T. I like Bombay Sapphire when I can get it, but on a student budget I'll admit to buying, erm, grocery-store-brand. I just tell myself it's like being a drinker back during Prohibition when one was drinking whatever someone had to dish out of their bathtub! (sigh.)

My dad got me into drinking Laphroaig a while ago, although that's more of a reflective-y drink for me rather than a social one. Yes, that is my polite way of saying I will hide the bottle when people are over.

I also like (but haven't had in a long while) a bizarre drink that I learned under the name "singapore sling," but from what I've learned since it sounds like a very distant relation. The measurements are on the loose side (much like one's knees after finishing one), but a rough estimate is, in a glass approximately the size of a child's sand bucket, mix:
healthy serving ice cubes (we do like to stay hydrated)
2 shots gin
1.5 shots sloe gin
1 shot creme de cassis
splash grenadine
squeeze half a lime in, drop in the dessicated lime husk as "garnish," top up with Perrier. Do not drink with a straw. This is a cocktail to be lifted to one's mouth with both hands while glowering at the rest of the room.

I am not old enough to buy alcohol but I can get out the book and mix one.
Gin Toddy
Use Old Fashioned cocktail glass.
1/2 t Powdered Sugar
2 t Water and stir.
2 oz. Dry Gin
1 Lump of Ice
Stir well and twist lemon peel on top.
She is busy doing paperwork and said it is a nice surprise, and that it's good.

Sidecar. It's unfortunate that bartenders never know how to make a proper one... if they've heard of it, that is.

In the summer time, I enjoy a nicely blended Grasshopper or Capri. mmm...

Over anything, I really do prefer vodka-tonic with lime. But if I'm in the mood to splurge...Shamrock (they have another name in Ireland, but it's not family-friendly) or White Russian.

Mmm.

It must be a Manhattan!

Up, and if it's with Blanton's (which I can't really afford) standard, but if with Maker's Mark (next best thing) then "perfect" which is half red vermouth and half white.
The Perfect Manhattan can be served with an olive rather than a cherry, to make it more sweet and sour. I learned that from the ancient bartender at Poor Red's and Rich Opal's, where the Golden Cadillac was invented. They are still the world's largest consumer of Galliano! It's a seedy BBQ joint in El Dorado, CA (a stone's throw from my ancestral home).
I hate Manhattans on the rocks, it spoils the whole stemmed glass elegance of the cocktail... drips condensation all over you... and dilutes the booze! Que horror!

Actually you can have absinthe in the USA now. (Kubler & Lucid, with others on the way...)

I seldom use sugar with absinthe anymore.
Doesn't absinthe make the heart grow fonder?
:p

Okay, you can start throwing the brick-bats in my direction...:D

Sidecar. When I step into my favourite bar the bartender starts to make one without me ordering it...i go there too often! I can take it with a dash of amaretto as well.
