Researchers, after a study of 1,000 people in New Zealand, born in the 70's to today, have concluded that the speed at which you walk at 45 years old & over, is an indication of your aging process. In short, the slower one walks, the faster one ages, with teeth, lungs & immune systems showing accelerated decline, smaller brains & more advanced facial aging i.e. you look older than your years. Slower walking paces may also be a sign of an increased probability of developing dementia.
Anyone for a leisurely stroll down to the old folk's home ?

Meh. I have been accused of walking too fast and needing to slow down. My wife has said for years that I don't know how to pleasantly stroll but I'm getting old anyway.

Well, I suppose I'm fortunate not to be a New Zealander.

Maybe this will end up in the Journal of Irreproducible Results. As sloppy as some research is, once the popular "press" sniffs a good story, you can expect an over-simplified and sensational piece of reportage.

I actually read a similar finding two or three years ago. I admit that I am probably on the slower side of the bell curve. ...however I can walk for miles and miles and days and days. (And while I’m doing it, I’m solving the worlds problems!) My kids don’t want to go for walks with me because they know it could be quite a walk. I hope that counts for something.

My Father-in-Law lost his left leg from just above the knee in WW2, his prosthetic leg was more pathetic. The poor fellow got about, but always slowly. Sometimes it was so painful he used a crutch to support himself. Despite his snail pace, he went on to live until his early 90's. He wasn't from New Zealand either.
