PSG: I hit 60 last Christmas Eve. All plans for a big party were up in smoke because I was home in bed with a miserable cold. But I meditated on my state in life, and pronounced it OK. Having no kids makes a huge difference. I wish I had them, but I do enjoy the freedom and lack of stress of not having any.
I barely remember turning 40, but I do recall it was like nothing happened.
I guess it's a little different for women. There seems to be a big thing about being over 40. Horse hockey. A woman of 40 is absolutely at her peak of everything. Post a picture of your ravishing self celebrating the event!

When I turned 40...

I had had long hair for quite a while and wore it in a ponytail. On my fortieth birthday I had it all cut off - by a Penthouse Pet (Miss April, 1990). That one event circumvented any mid-life crisis for the next decade!

Now over fifty, it's hitting me; I desperately want that new Harley-Davidson 'Nightster'! My girl says she'll leave me if I get it! Now that is a mid-life dilemma!!!

Hmmmmm! What's a fellow to do?

Buy her new leathers to go riding with you and let her choose her own helmet. Nothing like getting a gal new clothes to "get her in the mood".

I used to go riding on the back of one of my customer's Harley's because his wife didn't like to go riding with him. Strictly against company policy, of course. We had the best time, on the few trips we took. lol

PrettySquareGal,

I turned 41 three months ago. I had not crisis when I turned 40. It is just a number. I recommend to keep calm. There is no reason for a crisis. Enjoy your life. When you get older you don't feel as insecure as in your youth.
Your are still young, you are not old with 40.:)
LadyDeWinter is absolutely right. Technically, "midlife" begins at age sixty, as our maximum lifespan is Biblically set at 120. :)

I dated a tall handsome man 11 years younger than me for a few weeks. I highly recommend it.

I'm exactly 11 years younger than my girlfriend; she highly recommends me! She's not having a mind-life crisis! :D

Think my husband will mind?
lol Chances are. Depends on the husband, I suppose. Or how sneaky you are, but I wouldn't recommend THAT.
Anyway, 40 isn't even mid-life for people these days. We live longer and longer. So you can see that denial is my preferred method of not dealing with it. We're aging to perfection like a fine wine.
Dixon: I bet she does! I went on to get involved with an archeologist/roots guitarist who is 9 years older than me.
Marc: I had a cougar moment when I got divorced and realized there was now such a thing as younger men.

Yes, I was once on the receiving end of one of those cougars. A highly recommendable experience, as you've said.

PSG: As I neared 40, I also saw a grey hair and went crazy with the dye. Quite a few of my friends had un-needed cosmetic procedures. Great ways to waste money.

I am going to be 37 next Tuesday, and I know it's not yet 40, but I can see it there, off in the distance. I started dyeing my hair back to its original red last year because even though I know it's going to be very pretty all white someday, I am just not ready to go there. I would not be in my 20s again if you paid me, even though I wouldn't mind that body back! ;) I love my 30s, and hope that my 40s are going to be fun too.

Sally, you and me have to have us a chat, and I need to hear all your stories! Yes, the dirty ones too!!! lol And no, I'd never tell.
